Marc Prokosch, an attorney representing the family, said the family has an active asylum case and shared paperwork showing the father and son had arrived to the US at a port of entry, meaning an official crossing point.
“The family did everything they were supposed to in accordance with how the rules have been set out,” he said. “They did not come here illegally. They are not criminals.” He said there was no order of deportation against them and he believes the father and son have remained together in detention. |

I actually agree with you that they should never separate families. (I mean have they, though? Are dad and son together?) I think it would actually have been worse to have left the boy with a stranger with whom he might or might not be safe. What makes the situation UNFORGIVABLE is that the father was legal. It isn't that he is not a violent criminal. It is not that he is not any sort of criminal. It is that he is here LEGALLY. What is happening in my country? MAGAs will say he is here legally only because Biden let him in, which they disagree with. They don't recognize their legal status, which will shortly be revoked by a sham immigration judge. neither the father nor the son should have had their lives disrupted. they were in the system and doing everything in accordance with the law- the premise is simply wrong about whether they should have been separated or not or anything else. ICE had ZERO legal right to interfere with their lives at all. |
