Burden didn’t need to write a book. She chose to write a book. She said her mother had also faced infidelity in her relationships and in her social class women were supposed to just smile, rug sweep and carry on. She wanted to defy that expectation.

And if she has a daughter, the odds of her daughter facing infidelity will still be high. She wrote a book about an issue that's common. Women still sign up to get married knowing full well as their age their DH will start looking at you get women. It sucks.

Defying expectations alone isn’t a great idea. In the Modern Love podcast, she said that a friend asked why she was printing all this. I wouldn’t say this after my friend showed me her by-line, but if she told me about the idea before she published, I would have certainly asked her what she hoped to get out the experience.

Yes, despite her being surrounded by affairs in her own family, I believe she thought it wouldn’t happen to her. Or rather all the emotional and social fall out wouldnt happen to her.

A lot of the socially prominent women of her generation in NY like Tory Burch, Alexandra von Furstenberg, Pia Getty, Brooke de Ocampo, and Marina Rust ended up divorced.

Belle met her ex not long after her father died, and he reminded her physically of his dad. He didn't have the temper of her father and thought she would not have the life her grandmother/mother had with their cheating husbands.

Men with opportunity especially in the finance world cheat just because they can.

Well, if her ex relies family friends to raise money or land jobs, he will have a harder time now. Funds of funds are a dime a dozen.

I read the book. My quote is absolutely what happened.

You have absolutely no idea what predatory means. He added a provision about how post-marriage assets would be titled. Again, she agreed to it and weighed in on how assets would be titled.

She made a dumb choice. She had agency.
