There is a critical mass. Great little Chinese restaurant near the Williams campus. And Amherst has plenty - it is a huge college town with UMass. Maybe right about Grinnell but still irrelevant.

And someone has to be the first. There were no Jews at many of these schools years ago. Some Jews decided to be trailblazers. Now they are plentiful. I recognize that Jews can blend in better due to appearances, but the concept is still the same.

Excuses, excuses, excuses...

Neither of these places have an Asian population outside of faculty. Especially when we’re comparing to a place like California.

So you can stay in your Asian bubble or branch out. Your call. Stop whining. Amherst in particular has enough Asians that there should be zero concerns. Sorry the world is out to get you and no one is rolling out the red carpet to make things perfect. FFS.

Bubba. Asians aren’t the ones who need to whine about being a minority. Soon you white men are gonna be the minority on these campuses, because you’re the mediocre students too.

Minorities using the word "mediocre" is like MAGA people using the word "woke." It is a lazy trigger word that advertises ignorance. If you go through life in majority-white (at least for now) America thinking that all white people who like mainstream things like sports, video games, drinking, etc. are mediocre, you are not going to go far in life. Many of us are able to enjoy these things while ALSO pursuing intellectual pursuits like science, literature, math, languages, etc. Not sure why this is so hard for people to understand. Please remove "mediocre" from your vocabulary, at least in this context. Ironically, it advertises your mediocrity.

Well, for all of the built-in advantages white people get - just for being white- there are a lot of mediocre ones out there. Especially the men.

Just saying.

This is so tiresome. Where are the built-in advantages for the lower class or middle class white male students in Missouri or Oklahoma or West Virginia?

Or to make it more local. Where are the built-in advantages for white boys going to Gaithersburg or Lewis or any of the outer burb schools? Compared to the rich black kids going to Sidwell, GDS, St. Albans, NCS and so on?

Rich and UMC black people exist in 2026. And they have all the advantages that wealthy people tend to do. And those advantages absolutely trump some poor white boy's reality.

How many rich black people do you think are out there?

Rich or at least UMC - quite a few. We are now more than a generation into Affirmative Action. There was a nice growth in AA students at top schools in the late 80s into the 90s and their kids are now applying to college. It isn't a huge number so they are definitely in demand, but it isn't a trivial number either.

The HBCUs have done a lot more for black social mobility than AA.
Spelman, Howard and Xavier produce more black medical students than the entire Ivy league combined.
Morehouse, Howard and Spelman produce more black law students than the entire Ivy League combined.

Meanwhile any black graduate from ivy has to prove they aren't a DEI admit the rest of their life because of AA.

Actually many Spelman students are choosing between these schools and Spelman. Spelman is getting the best of the best but they also accept more students with potential.

There is more to intelligence than SAT scores. I work with some of the dumbest graduates and they are ivy grads. Smart but can't think themselves out of a paper bag. No common sense.

These gaps are large enough that we can say there is a gap in cognitive ability. Whatever intelligence people were blessed with, the group with 1560 SAT scores have developed it more than the ones with 1240 SAT scores

You are ignoring the fact that the only reason they are admitted at such high percentages is they clearly benefitted from unearned Asian privilege.

10% of asians get a 1500+ on the SATs
2% of whites get a 1500+ on the SATs
less than 1% of other groups get a 1500+ on the SATs

As you push towards 1550 and 1600, the concentration gets even more lopsided.

This is the explanation for the disproportionate admission rates.

Have we reached the phrenology stage of the thread already?? You were so methodical and patient earlier. Clocking out for the evening? You might not have a plaything in the morning when you start up again.

Stay up the rest of the night? I promise it will be more fun than your usual bedtime routine

College Board did a study that showed racial SAT score gaps shrink substantially or disappear when students attend the same schools, take the same advanced courses, and have comparable test preparation. The study demonstrated that the observed gap is explained by differences in educational opportunity.

What is unearned asian privilege?

Unearned Asian privilege, or Asian skin privilege, is the societal privilege that benefits Asian people over non-asian people in some societies, particularly in the United States, and particularly if Asian people are otherwise under the same social, political, or economic circumstances as others. Asian privilege has developed in circumstances that have broadly sought to protect Asian racial privileges, various national citizenships, and other rights or special benefits.

Tell qualified black kids to go to these schools instead of HBCUs. You can't have it both ways. Schools should accept the kids they want regardless of race. Make those kids feel welcome but they shouldn't be treating them any differently. If they don't want to come, there is no more they can do. Perhaps they can do a little more outreach but special scholarships, lower standards, etc. are bogus. Same with athletes before you jump all over me. Though ironically I'm guessing a bunch of the blacks are also athletes so they are twofers.

You actually could have it both ways if blacks actually went to school. Enrollment is low especially with black men.

You believe black people don't go to school?

That’s the exact opposite of every study I’ve ever seen. Poor whites and Asians (<30k HHI) outperform the most affluent black students (250k HHI) on the SAT. I’d be interested in seeing this study if it exists.

It looks like that white high school male from Missouri, Oklahoma, or West Virginia has a better chance of employment than a college educated Black male of getting hired. Just being white is the number one criteria in hiring. White - the built in advantage in these United States.
