100% agree. Status Quo is the best for everyone, even middle schoolers. My kid and their friends do not want to be in school until 4:30pm and that seems to be the direction FCPS is going (the 9:50 start time for ESers is just a red herring, no one is actually considering that). |
Agreed |
| Does anyone know if the school board will vote on start times separate from boundaries or is this a big single vote? |
|
Weren’t they going to pilot new start times in the Mason District this year before implementing anything? What happened with that? The bell schedule didn’t change for any of those schools.

They didn’t do it cause the transfer window was already closed so it wouldn’t be fair to the teachers to not have the options to move. |
Why would you think they need to shift lunch back 30 minutes? They'll keep the same lunch slots. The specials or work time will be moved later. |
Before school is the obvious answer. |
With a later start the first lunch can still be 1030. Why do you think it needs to shift? |
If school stars at 9:50, that’s 40 minutes after the bell. How much time does the cafeteria need to transition between breakfast and lunch? |
Schedules are planned based on certain teachers schedules. For example, everyone doesn’t have intervention block the same because ESL teachers are shared. You clearly have no idea about the inner workings of schedules at a school. |
No it cannot. Cafeteria will be serving breakfast at arrival and needs transition time. Currently they have an hour between arrival and first lunch. |
I admittedly hadn't thought of breakfast service. I suppose it's not an option to eliminate that? It wouldn't be needed with later starts, but Im guessing it's guaranteed as part of FARMS. |
Those certain teachers schedules would change. Adapt to the new availability. They don't need to shift everything 30 minutes back. They will start over with new blocks of time. |
No, it’s bad enough they’re making kids who rely on school breakfast wait an extra 30 minutes to eat. On top of that, some elementary schools would still be starting at or before 9:00 when breakfast service is still appropriate. Equitable access. |
Yes. Which is why lunch will be shifted. How do you not get this. Lunch will not be served until 10:50-11:00 and intervention will be schedules based on the instructional schedule for grades. So lunch could be anytime from 10:50-2:30 which would be 30 mins later. Same thing with specials. Planning an instructional schedule is not an easy task with all the components (staffing, lunch, specials). Again, you clearly don’t get it. |
