Queen Reid is right. I just skimmed the article, but I didn't see mention of any other school superintendent that has this. What are our rights as taxpayers? Do we have a right to an explanation of what credible threats she actually faces? Plenty of teachers and students get threats and the school system does not protect them. If she were known as conservative instead of liberal and progressive would people let her get away with this queen-like behavior?

There were no credible threats, or it would have been reported in the news.

This is the dumbest comment so far on this thread and that’s saying something. You MAGA types really don’t have a clue do you?

Don’t be surprised if the security person is a ‘friend of a friend’. The corruption is rampant.

Not to confuse systems but this is classic MCPS - only in Moco salary would be double!

Unfortunately, due to budget constraints, there will now be 35 kids in your kindergarten class.

But no bodyguard to keep the little ones safe.

If there were threats, the police or FBI would handle it. The school board members probably get more threats than Reid. No justification was provided for this highly unusual position (no other superintendent has one).

This isn’t a political or maga issue. Just because Asra wrote the article doesn’t mean the job posting isn’t real. The job is the problem and it is a problem. She spends our money for her wishes. I guess we can complain to the auditor whose mission includes abuse of funds.

LOL. The FCPS auditor knows who butters her bread. She'll find some instance where an elementary school principal didn't fill out the right form to obtain approval of a $25 expenditure. She won't go after Reid or the School Board, no matter how wasteful their spending might be.

You can go to the website and see the job. I don't understand what Asra wrote that was incorrect.

This type of knee jerk comment takes away from the seriousness of this issue. Her need for personal staff on our dime has nothing to do with DEI or “left wing.”

you're free to have your opinion, but I'm entitled to mine, and it is hardly knee jerk. she is a grifter of the highest order and is using the power of county government to impose left wing values. Armed protection at our expense is great for her, but she would love to take away our First Amendment, Second Amendment, and plenty of our other rights.

something tells me that if a book had two mommies in it you wouldn't be so pro first amendment

* English class, even for the advanced students, requires no reading of actual books
* No sports until high school - and then 50 kids trying out for 15 spots.
* The school board debates utterly useless garbage but manages to pass hiring their campaign managers on FCPS staff
* They talk equity but do absolutely nothing to make anything actually equitable except hire crazy expensive token black women to "run DEI"
* They send out endless surveys about kids' mental health - which only makes kids question their mental health but solves nothing
* Kids never, ever leave the building in Middle and High School. Sometimes for PE but half the year, they are sitting and learning about "health"

this is why this forum is useless. None of this is true. People just write ridiculous inflammatory things. Always some, but definitely a ton now and until November.

There is recess in middle school. Recess is not appropriate in high school.
There are sports in middle school. Cross country and track and they are looking at bringing in more. Traditionally outside groups have served the needs of the community- like parks and SYC and the like.
Free 6 AP tests. Most areas in the country charge $90 per test. Free DE classes. Free SAT day. There are many times when I talk to relatives in other parts of the country and they are paying for things we do not pay for here.
My kids were offered 2 surveys on mental health last year and we opted out of both. That’s not endless and my kids took zero. FYI teen suicide rates have gone down so maybe something is working.
Why would they leave? It’s school. No one is learning health- except in health for 1 quarter. They learn math and science and music and writing….etc.
This is a ridiculous rant based in zero facts. This is why threads get locked and why people stop coming to this site. Because it’s useless.
Unless they popped some corn.

In California, the state I know best, there is recess in High School - 40 minutes of lunch with free time outside and a 20 minute break between 2nd and 3rd period. Why? Because it's not possible to go from Physics to Spanish to Calculus without time for a break and rather than just saying "we care about the social-emotional health of our students," the Cupertino School district actually does. Middle School recess in most of FCPS is a "brain break" sitting in a room. That's not recess, that is time on your phone. My kids have been offered mental health survey twice a year every year for 5 years. The parks and SYC have never provided the free sports that schools normally do. But it's true, FCPS cares only about high achievers - the ones that take 6 AP tests. The ones that make the school board look good. But for the majority, it's really a shitty district.

Again- not true. And if there was recess if high school people would complain that kids weren’t working hard enough. Lovely that CA is better, but high school recess is extremely unusual.
There are no phones allowed in middle school bell to bell so you are making things up. I have middle school children and our school as well as my friend’s schools all go outside for recess.
Free sports also sounds like lovely Cupertino land but it’s not the rest of the world.
I hope you can get back to Cupertino.

Must demonstrate a high level of discretion and maintain strict confidentiality in all aspects of the role.

$90k for the school year.

Something mighty fishy. When you require 24/7 on-call service, you don’t expect one person to do it all.

If an immediate, current threat, would hope the emergency response plan is not to carefully craft a job description, post said job description with a non-immediate end-date, gather submitted resumes, interview, have second round of interviews, send offer, get acceptance that includes the new hire giving at least 2 weeks notice, background check and then bring them in.

From the job posting:

Requires exceptional flexibility; schedule will be unpredictable and driven by the superintendent's daily activities and security needs.

Must be available for irregular hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, travel, and extended on-call duty.

Travel? Travel?

It’s basically to have someone with her on all of her school visits, etc.

Wonder if it comes with a vehicle? Glorified chauffeur?

She’s already driven everywhere.

THIS IS A LIE. I’m a principal and my colleagues and I have all had her at our schools. No one drives Michelle Reid anywhere (except maybe her husband who accompanied her to a Saturday event at our school last fall). We have regular meetings with her and see her in the parking garage getting out of her car alone.

I don’t agree with everything she does, and you don’t have to either. But you don’t get to post straight-up lies.

As for a security person, I have no problem with it. The new head of security is a former Secret Service member. My guess is that this coming from him based on credible threats and/or incidents. I’ve done more “no trespass” letters in the last several years than in ten previous years combined. People are unhinged.

First I've ever heard about a husband.

Same

I met her husband when he accompanied her to a play at my child’s school. They both seemed lovely, to be honest. Nobody in their right mind would want that job - everyone hates you.

ABC7 news had a story about it. The statement put out by FCPS made it sound like they wanted someone to be general security at events she goes to. Not necessarily for her? But an immediate response person should there be an issue at an event?
