I would like MVP shut down, if only as a symbol. It sickens me that all these institutions (Catholic Churches, two birds, ncrc) keep going business as usual. What message does that send?

If you read the case report, it appears that at least one of the victims was a summer swim teammate.

I don't understand why you think this is a swim problem or MVP problem. So far, the victims are neighbors in the same apartment building.

I’m an MVP parent and acquaintance of Thomas. We have never been to his apartment.

It sounds like he groomed MVP children and their families but the abuse happened at his apartment. (Or did the grooming/abuse come first and then the encouragement to join the swim team???) Until information comes out that he victimized children at a practice and/or meet, I won’t hold MVP responsible.

I’ve talked with my kids and feel confident that nothing happened. He did take some beautiful pictures of the kids that I don’t think I’ll be able to look at again. I hope the police are looking at his computers.

He did. But my child doesn't want to tell MVP, or anyone else for that matter - they're terrified.

The tone of MVP’s email makes it clear they don’t want to be notified. They should have at least included that you can remain anonymous when they said to direct inquiries to the police.

Law enforcement should be AGGRESSIVELY looking for the other victims. The fact that they’re concealing his photograph is outrageous.

Would just one investigative reporter dare to take this on?

ASA sent a similar email as MVP. I don’t get the impression that they don’t want to be notified. I got the impression that they’re saying law enforcement is better equipped to handle these situations involving criminal conduct.

Good lord:
“Thomas Mahony is a North Asia analyst for the Australian Government.

With accomplices of the Kelly Gang -- Australia's most notorious outlaws -- among his ancestors, Thomas has dedicated his life to public service in order to rehabilitate his family's honour.”

Yup, that’s him.

Stop playing dumb.

Now, since I read the report and know about the 2023 allegation, I think she left to protect herself so she wasn't charged. How TF could she not have known her husband was a predator.
He was BRAZEN. You have to read the report. He was assaulting one of the victims in the top bunk. The victim's mother came to the apartment to pick the victim up. He came out of the bedroom where the bunk was, poured some gin for himself and the victim's mother, then said he was going back to the bedroom to keep playing with the victim!!!!! While the victim's own mother was in the apartment!!!! This guy is a sick f***.

I hope she didn’t take with her or destroy any digital evidence of his before she left. Someone needs to search his computer.

Thanks Columbo, I'm sure they're on it.

Probably for liability reasons. They do no want to be implicated for what they (could come to) know.

Can someone with legal expertise please explain why he was not arrested in 2023, when the first victim was interviewed on record?

It's in the case file. An arrest warrant was issued. But the government didn't think it could prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.

That’s just what they said.

If you have a child who was impacted, you can request that your child be completely anonymous in the forensic interview and all legal documents - no initials. They can be referred to as Jane or John Doe.

We need as many victims as possible to come forward, to ensure that this monster's attorney fails and he, Thomas, goes to prison.

Did you keep your kid on the team? Do you hold the summer swim team accountable in any way?

Do the kids go to DCPS?

Yes and the guy has been on the HSA.

Oh no! Seems to be a pattern— overly involved in each area of his kids’ lives (ex photographing the team).

Wonder if DCPS was alerted?

How would they know given that the last name was misspelled in the original press release? I only heard through word of mouth. I think that MPD should correct its press release and include a photo.

Hopefully someone (the police?) tells the school. Dcps doesn’t track parent arrests etc as far as I know. I wonder if victim
went to the same school.

Because they’re neighbors in the same building, it’d make sense they went to the same public school unless one or more of the kids were private schooled.

Imagine being the parents of the first victim that reported him in 2023 and having to see him in the lobby or elevator of the same building. That must have been infuriating for the parents of the first victim every time they saw Thomas.

Hope they would have moved!!

The misspelling of the name is bad. The thing that’s worse is that the original victim count was stated as 2, but the victim count is actually 3 children. That needs to be corrected.

Also, on the docket, they reversed his first and last name. So it reads Thomas, Mahony. If you search with his last name, nothing comes up because they were conveniently mis-ordered.
