Why aren’t all the Northerners at Emory choosing to attend better schools in other parts of the country if Emory is so second-rate??

because they couldnt get in. 40% yield with ed games is epitome of pathetic

correction. ED plus a separate fake campus to pad stats and yield

Those of us in Georgia have equal respect for Emory, UGA and Georgia Tech and value each college for the unique things it offers. Most people are intelligent enough to apply to schools that are the best fits. So…if Emory doesn’t make your kid’s world go round then they shouldn’t apply! But don’t bash the choice of the kids who apply and matriculate there. So glad I fled the DMV before having kids. The hostility and snobbery on this board is astounding. (But some of the advice is valuable).

Doesn't Emory have a 11 percent admission rate? That feels competitive to me.

It’s closer to 15%…but yeah it’s competitive.

Yes it does, with 1510/34 median test scores. While the others two schools mentioned can't crack a 1450.

No it's 14.95 and they do Early Decision Test Optional. So, their median SAT/ACT stats are pretty meaningless

What does ED have to do with test scores? If your DC was rejected just say that...

From Emory 2024-2025 CDS

Total first time, first year admitted and enrolled 1,438

Of those who actually enrolled:
Submitting SAT Scores 623
Submitting ACT Scores 286
= 909

I don’t get the attraction of Emory. It lacks the prestige of an Ivy or other top privates and it lacks elite programs like engineering at GT or Michigan. Plus it doesn’t have D1 sports like Wake or Tulane, which are important to a lot of kids. It seems like an oversized LAC but not in a good way.

Many people don’t get the attraction of many schools for various reasons. Not everyone can get into an Ivy because that’s the reality. Not everyone wants to do engineering. Not everyone cares about sports. Not being at an Ivy or at another college with an elite program or D1 sports shouldn’t stop anyone from taking pride in where they are and appreciating the opportunities/experience there

Take pride and don't try to downplay schools that have such things. Just be happy with your situation.

If it lacked the prestige, it wouldn't have the attraction dummy. If it's not D1, or not Rah rah, etc. It must have something to attract the caliber of student it attracts. Also, Emory's best program is better than anything GT or Umich has to offer. A #1 nursing program is more impressive than the obscure engineering majors GT does well in.
