Small misdemeanor charges that defendants always showed up for in-person are now being skipped.

These include minor charges like driving without a license, unregistered vehicle, driving without insurance, etc. where typically the defendant could show up to court, provide proof to the judge that they'd obtained a license/insurance/registered their vehicle and have the charge dismissed. They'd only need to pay a small court fee. But now judges are giving out max fines and for class 2, 3, and 4 misdemeanors if the person isn't present. They are issuing bench warrants for class 1 misdemeanors when they don't show.

If I was at court with 10 defendants with a mix of class 2-4 misdemeanor charges over a few days, I may have had 1 no show. Now? It is more like 50-75% are no shows. And I haven't had a class 1 misdemeanor defendant no-show in years but have unfortunately had 2 no-show this week.

If you are here illegally you should be scared. Having a bench warrant means they can be arrested and deported.

I’m ok with that.

The didn’t have a bench warrant. They had an Administrative warrant. Not the same. At all.

Read the court papers.

Reentry after removal from the U.S. is a federal crime that allows for immediate removal.

It gets worse. This judge adjourned the domestic violence battery case without the victim in court ready to testify. And didn’t even bother to tell the state’s attorney! He was waiting around the courtroom all day and only found out when the case wasn’t called up.

This is 100% correct. A judicial warrant is necessary to enter a private dwelling or non-public area in a place that is otherwise open to the public like the kitchen of a restaurant. ICE can enter a dwelling or non-public space with an administrative warrant if an adult present in that space agrees to let them in.

An administrative warrant allows for an arrest in a public place like a courthouse. If the ICE agents had an administrative warrant they were authorized to affect an arrest.

I just read the criminal complaint. It reads like a television episode. This judge needs to get off the bench now. She's not working on all cylinders.
It appears there are a number of people who can testify to what happened.

She sneaked the guy out and left his victims in the courtroom waiting for the case.

Doesn’t matter for the judge. She committed a crime by obstructing a legal arrest.

Where is the sympathy for the domestic violence victim waiting to testify against this guy, while the judge snuck him out of the courthouse? How is this okay?

And, the courthouse would be the safest place for the arrest--he would have been through metal detectors and be unarmed. Instead, they had to chase him down.

The judge didn't just adjourn the case, she escorted the immigrant through a non-public door. That is not part of a judge's job.

Judge deserves to go to Jail.

She broke the law.

"This criminal illegal alien has a laundry list of violent criminal charges including strangulation and suffocation, battery, and domestic abuse," Tricia McLaughlin, assistant secretary for public affairs at the Department of Homeland Security, said in a statement.

WTF??

Is this Judge defending this guy?????

Why do dems support this judge????

He was deported in 2013 and re-entered which is a federal crime.
This is a losing issue. Move one dems.

Goebbels lied a lot back in the bad. Did not mean any of it was true. No one in their right mind would believe DHS.

They charged her with obstructing an official proceeding, which the Supreme Court ruled on in the Fischer case last year. This charge isn’t going to stick.

Who the hell is writing these criminal complaints?!
