Same. She’s a uniquely qualified candidate as an APS parent, APS teacher, and head of AEA who works so closely with teachers. She’s gotten a lot done in a short period of time there. Everyone who I know has worked with her says she’s an extremely hard worker and will jump right in. She’s been Visible at school board meetings for a very long time even before the AEA position.

You should at least get your facts straight. June is not a teacher, she never was. She was an instructional assistant.

Since in your own words your claim that she is uniquely qualified was based on your mistaken belief that she is a teacher, maybe you should reconsider. I never saw her at a board meeting before she headed AEA.

I know the role she has had because my kids went to Ashlawn. At the time June was an instructional assistant, she also floated to classrooms and took over long term sub roles when needed. She was a go to at the school. I truly do not understand your dig at instructional assistants. She was in the classroom, period. I know she was at board meetings because I saw her there with my own eyes. She was the most involved PTA president we ever had.

No dig at instructional assistants. Why did you misrepresent June as a teacher when she is not?
Anonymous
Instructional Assistants are important and play and integral role in the classroom. However, I’ve heard that June is full time at the AEA now. When did she step down as a staff member at APS?

I have heard this too. Instructional assts are important and no one is saying they are not. The problem is that one of June's supporters claimed on here that she was a teacher, then when called out admitted she knew that was not true. That's just false advertising.

You’re nuts. Any parent seeing someone in a teacher role at their school just calls them a teacher. If someone’s elementary school teacher is out and someone else fills that role for a period of time they call them their teacher. That’s what was described. This is not someone speaking on behalf of June or claiming to be their campaign manager, etc. it’ someone who said they were a parent at the school. Your continued nitpicking on things said to support June is odd.

(Remember that the whole cellphone brouhaha started with Youngkin’s EO.) And sorry, I’m not going to vote for June because of that. You go vote for whoever you’d like tho.

Instead of making assumptions, why don’t you just ask June directly about it? If you know anything about her, you know she’ll tell you her thoughts directly.

I do question the person who keeps coming to this page to spread false narrative about June being a Youngkin supporter. Do you know anything about her? Either you’re making a wild assumption or you’re blatantly spreading false information.

No one is saying that June directly supports Youngkin. People are pointing out the June as head of AEA willingly wrote a joint letter with APE, a group that supports Youngkin and that won't disclose who funds it. That's not what I want to see in a future school board member. We can judge our candidates based on their past actions and associations. She either agrees with APE or should have done more homework before teaming up with them. Either way, no thanks.

Does this argument work both ways? Am I to understand that because APE signed a letter with AEA they have now endorsed the entire AEA position? Does APE now support unlimited collective bargaining rights for teachers? Do they support AEA's position on salaries and pay increases in the coming years? AEA opposed in-person learning during COVID, so clearly we must assume that APE has repudiated those views. What other positions does AEA have that APE has now seemingly signed on to by agreeing with them on a single issue?

Good point, but Moe's crew on here just seems to want to bash June... which makes me question why they think she can't stand on her own as a candidate?

I'm not part of Moe's crew. I never heard of Moe before this election. I am going to vote for Moe though. June co-writing a letter with APE was definitely a factor I considered.

For all you people with this position… do you feel the same way about members of Congress if they ever work on a single bipartisan initiative? This viewpoint seems ridiculous to me. We want to continue nothing but polarization & complete separation of the sides forever?

Yes I would view it negatively if any potential elected official teamed up with a shady lobbying group with right wing ties that won't disclose who funds it. The fact that you think this is okay speaks volumes about your own views.

You’re losing perspective. This was a letter about getting cell phones out of classrooms. Something that the majority of parents in Arlington want. You’re making a mountain out of a molehill.

How do you figure a majority of parents wanted cell phones out of classrooms? Parents I know were either against a ban or don't really care.

I’m a parent of a current HS student. I support the ban, and don’t know many parents who don’t also support it. Also, all the teachers support it.

APE sucks, Youngkin can get bent, but a stopped clock is right twice a day.

You said about June - "She’s a uniquely qualified candidate as an APS parent, APS teacher, and head of AEA who works so closely with teachers."

Sorry you don't like being called out on a lie. Why did you do that? You don't think June can stand on her own credentials so you made one up?

DP. I don't care if she was a teacher or instructional assistant. I do care when she was last employed officially at APS as staff. Has it been three years (since she assumed AEA's presidency)? Or ten years? That's important. I also care that she endorsed herself which is still sketchy.

Do you know how ridiculous this sounds? You admit June's not a teacher but you said she's a teacher to you so you misrepresented to everyone that she's a teacher. Is RFK Jr a doctor in your eyes too?

I know who my children's teachers are. I have never known the names of the instructional assistants unless I ask for gift giving. They change so often too because it really is a low-paying job. It's not right. They should be respected and paid much more though. I hope June advocates for them.

No we don't. I would not assume everyone working with kids in a school is a teacher. There are a lot of people in schools who work with kids. They have all different roles, only some of them are teachers. I can't tell if you really don't know the difference or are just trying to cover up a lie.

Sounds like their preferred candidate didn’t win. I’m a lifelong democrat (didn’t grow up here and though) and the ArlDems involvement in this process is so gross to me. I don’t want to support them at all.

You’re responding to the wrong poster. So I called her a teacher, that that’s what she is to me. She worked in my child’s school in the classroom with students all day long. Move on. There’s nothing nefarious going on. I’m not sure why you keep trying to make drama where there is none.

DP. I don't care if she was a teacher or instructional assistant. I do care when she was last employed officially at APS as staff. Has it been three years (since she assumed AEA's presidency)? Or ten years? That's important. I also care that she endorsed herself which is still sketchy.

She took leave from APS when elected to AEA. When her 4 year term with AEA is over, she can go back to APS in an educator role.

So she hasn't been in a classroom since 2022?

That’s 2 school years. The primary issues in APS have remained the same
