I think he basically has taken office, just remotely. Ironic.

Well, we have this silly little thing called a constitution which would not allow for this....

Because that pesky consitution doesn't work that way.

What I don't get....on the one hand you have Trump calling for the elimination of the debt ceiling and on the other, you have the gOP complaining about government spending and the creation of the DOGE committee.

How do these two values square?

Predictably, the MAGAs are calling for Musk to become speaker. They know the constitution won't allow him to be president, right? Or is that when the suspend the constitution?

Seriously. Musk has an overinflated ego and no qualifications whatsoever to have a say on public policy matters. The sooner he pisses off Trump the better.

I’m not so sure Trump can put the genie back in his bottle. At this point Leon has more power than him - he’s got more followers and a bigger platform. Trump has given away his power to Leon and Leon’s not going to hand it back easily - if at all

Well, maybe Trump will piss of Elon? Give me some hope, people.

It's the other way around. Trump likes people until he doesn't and then they are dead to him. When he gets tired of Musk, that will be the end of all of this.

Problem is that Elon owns Trump. He can't just dump him like he can some poor schmuck congressman.

Because most of us want to keep Trump away from that office for as long as possible (and bc the Constitution).

Wait Trump promised to eliminate the national debt, why does he want to eliminate the debt ceiling instead?

Doesn’t matter what they say behind closed doors, looks like they’re lining up like good soldiers.

We should get rid of the debt ceiling. It's a dumb thing and only causes problems.

However, two days before appropriations run out is not the time to get rid of it. SMH

Because more federal money can go to the billionaire class. He’s going to break every promise, except for getting 62 trans athletes off the fields.

Something will pass by Friday because Congress wants to go home. They will find an excuse to give Trump the middle finger and Trump will accept it because his a weak, lame duck and Musk will Xhit some lies and we'll all move on.

I doubt it. Trump shut the government down right before Christmas in 2018 for 5 weeks. He isn’t even President yet, and somehow these fools are letting him run the show. How is that going to look in the history books? “The GOP followed the President-ELECT’s lead and shut down the government for…. Costing the government $XX… “ It’s so stupid.

Trump will say "it happened under Biden" and his idiot followers with a 5th grade education will cheer it on.

Then President Doge will convince Rs in Congress to raise the debt ceiling to bankrupt the country like every Trump company, and his idiot followers will cheer him on.

And why isn’t Biden saying anything now?

https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2024/12/18/statement-from-press-secretary-karine-jean-pierre-on-republicans-threatening-a-government-shutdown/

It is titled: “ Statement from Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre” and includes no statements or messages attributed to the President. I think we are now at the Weekend at Bernies point of the Biden administration.

Biden respects the separation of powers.

This is a legislative matter at this point.

It should be a legislative matter, but for some reason a bunch of the Republican legislators are taking their orders from an unelected billionaire playing bureaucrat.

Not sure why this is happening, but pretty sure money and kompromat are involved.

I firmly believe that Trump spent years gathering info on as many republican politicians as possible and has been blackmailing them all along.

When will you get it through your thick brain that Republicans are bending the knee WILLINGLY? There is no kompromat. They are craven power hungry people who have no moral backbone. They are beyond shame. It's all a game for them. Maybe a few are cowards. But there is no blackmail because they don't care about governing.

This is actually pretty dumb, both substantively and strategically.

Isn't it emasculating to have to pander to the great unwashed every two years, only to have absolutely no say in how you exercise power?

Yep, Musk is running the government via Twitter. Trump is his paid-for puppet.

Trump ran the last 2 years via Truth Social.
