Yup and the majority of their kids are respectful and want to learn unlike a lot of the entitled rich kids who whine and complain about everything. Their entitled parents who run to the principal any time a teacher tells their child no or that their behavior is inappropriate because you know they are "involved" in the PTA

Huh? What are you drinking on about? The reason this happens is because the schools are over run by esol undocumented that the school doesn't focus on the standard middle of the road kids. The fact that undocumented don't contribute to the community by PTA volunteering is also a tell tale sign.

In my experience, PTA is a very white American concept, but immigrant families contribute to the school and to the kids in other ways. This goes for high-income immigrants from Asian countries as much as it does for undocumented immigrants from Latin America. There's more than one way to contribute, but sitting in a room once a month following Robert's Rules of Order is a distinctly white American one.

Contribute how?

They probably mean by running Science Olympiad and sending their own kids to private tutoring.

The PTA at our school has been largely run by Asian parents for years, though, despite PP's attempt to suggest PTAs are the educational equivalent of a hotdish.

I'm the PP and I do mean running the Science Fair but I also mean cooking for international night, volunteering to coach the running club, organizing an adult-supervised after school pick-up soccer match every day to keep kids busy until parents get off work, showing up to clean up the school grounds and plant flowers in the spring, and lots of other ad hoc items that are not "listening to a budget update and principal's announcements" once a month.

Those are all good things, but in some cases it's hard to be aware of those opportunities unless there's a PTA coordinating and communicating them to parents.

They seem to seriously be talking about using military for deportations, a hot mess. Better be white looking because I doubt they will be that careful.

What’s a "hot mess"? The only real hot mess is the sanctuary city policies that prevent ICE from doing its job and actively stonewall enforcement efforts. Local law enforcement in places like Fairfax County, often backed by the local government, either refuses to assist due to policy or is too understaffed to help. So, the military is being sent in to assist.

Agree. Sanctuary policies are indeed responsible for creating a “hot mess” of unfettered migration into the U.S. by anyone crossing our southern border.

Fairfax county is among the top-5 “destination counties” recorded by Border Patrol when they encounter/process illegal border-crossers at our southern border.

Immigration is a highly-relevant topic for FFX county, and particularly our schools.

When the WWII-era internment camps arose, plenty of legal immigrants and US citizens were rounded up. That anyone thinks that won’t happen again is naive at best.

Get ready to see lives torn apart to satisfy the egos of a bunch of white guys whose families don’t live them.

Well, as I understand it, the country voted for this. Might want to have some introspection as to why people voted for him. His brand was better than your side’s.

As someone with Japanese immigrant ancestry, I am amazed by how few people seem to dismiss, or not even know about, the horror and disruption caused by the internment camps during the Second World War.

Comparing modern deportation efforts to WWII-era Japanese internment camps is completely off-base and ignores key facts. The internment of Japanese Americans was based on racial prejudice and fear, targeting over 120,000 people, many of them U.S. citizens or legal residents, just because of their ethnicity. It was a shameful chapter in American history, and the government has apologized for it. Deportation today is totally different. It focuses on people who are in the country illegally, regardless of their race or ethnicity, and U.S. citizens and lawful residents can’t legally be deported. There is a legal process in place, with hearings and appeals, to make sure rights are protected. Deportation isn’t about race or targeting innocent people, it’s about enforcing the laws that millions of immigrants follow to come here the right way. The real problem is sanctuary city policies that block ICE from doing their job and let people break the law with no consequences. It’s time to enforce immigration laws, stop making excuses, and start putting the rights of legal residents and citizens first.

Now they are saying they only are going to deport dangerous criminals. This is not what they said during the campaign

Do you have a source? Pretty sure they will start with the dangerous ones and work down.

Here is the thing people. Rich people-be Republicans or Democrats-love their money more than they hate brown people. Makes sense to deport the criminals. But you really think that they are going after immigrants who work farms, construction, meat industry, etc? That is going to hurt their pockets (well, everyone's pockets...not just the supposed libs hiring nannies). It would be utterly stupid of them. And why are we talking about mass deportation without talking about holding businesses accountable for not hiring undocumented workers? Everyone-and I mean everyone-benefits from undocumented labor. It's not just nannies and lawn care for rich people. The produce/meat you eat, restaurants, etc. Your Great Schools scores might go up, but prepare for life to be exponentially more expensive.

This. Mass Deportation would completely affect the economy in every sector.

It's never right to exploit people in a bad situation, but there too many people who benefit.

It's not like mass deportation can be done overnight. The economy and communities can absorb these removals gradually and will be fine in time. A new normal will emerge.

This. I'm a teacher who is a Democrat and who also wants immigration reform. Why? Because I see how much of our resources are devoted to the ELL kids for very little return. A vast majority of their parents do not care about how their kids are doing in school. The parents don't speak English or care to learn, despite our school having a free EL program for parents.

The parents never come for open house or conferences. They rarely return phone calls or emails. School is seen as convenient and free babysitting for them, IMO.

Same here. Seems like it's an unpopular opinion for a teacher to state this in DCUM, but it is the case and not the exception.

Perhaps you are not a very good teacher then. Our Latino parents come to conferences and care very much about their kids' progress. Have you bothered to learn any Spanish? Any Urdu? Any Polish? Ukrainian? Any other language? Most educated people DO speak more than one language and this would help you build relationships with the families in your school as well as just meet basic expectations around being culturally intelligent.

Our families attend our ESL for adults classes. Maybe your families sense your disdain and stay away. Maybe your classroom management needs to improve. I see this periodically. There's no shame in it, we all have things to work on.
I don't know many people who think school is free babysitting, either. And our students who speak other languages mostly outperform our white kids by the time they are in high school. So maybe your schools aren't so great because of the staff. Just saying.

Sorry, I'm actually a Hispanic female. Your response is so typical of a limousine liberal. LOL.

I don't believe you.

This has to be satire.
