This is the funniest thing ever. It's also worth noting Ackman -- like Donald Trump and Jaren Kushner -- was RAISED a silverspoon BILLIONAIRE. And Ackman was a Harvard LEGACY. And then surprise, surprise Ackman's own kid(s) got into Harvard too. Look, no one is denying that Gay is a plagiarist. It’s just that whomever is chasing down these cheaters must have a clean slate themselves. If the wife of this dude is a plagiarist, he may not be in the best position to judge.

Everyone in academia knows that everyone makes insignificant paperwork errors like these two. The bad faith media conflates misplaced quotation marks with copying a whole research result.

Undergrad teens are expelled or at the very least suspended for one year for doing what his wife is credibly accused of.

I know of someone who was expelled in undergrad for less than this, and it changed his life trajectory, that is why this infuriates me.

I wonder if Bill's dad Lawrence gave a sizable gift to Harvard in ~ 1984 when junior was applying? See also Jared Kushner's dad pledging $2.5 million when Jared was applying in ~ 2000. Jared was a nitwit high school student, according to his own high school counselor. $2.5M in 2000 is equivalent to $4.5M in 2024.

Why does the bolder even matter? I certainly don’t care.

He’s not judging whether something is plagiarism, that’s for the individual institutions. He is just bringing potential plagiarism to light.

I don’t really understand why the actions of his wife matter at all here. MIT can deal with her, as Harvard dealt with Gay. Obviously the universities are incapable or unwilling to look for plagiarism, but they seem to be dealing with it when it is served up on a platter in front of them.

First of all, why has he suddenly decided to take on this monumental task? Who appointed him? Secondly, I don’t want a hypocrite preaching ethics in academia. His wife apparently directly quoted wiki articles, this is such a juvenile faux pas, so juvenile that she must be a fraud imo.

I’m not sure who should preach ethics. Clearly no academics can, given the apparently widespread cheating. In any event, no need for preaching, just action. I don’t really care who shines light on the cheating, just that light is shone.

And as for quoting Wiki, I don’t see how that’s worse than what Gay did. Obviously Gay plagiarized far more extensively as well.

In the other thread we were repeatedly told by Gay’s defenders that Harvard undergraduate students were never expelled or suspended for plagiarism like Gay’s. So, I’m a little suspicious that far less plagiarism than Gay would cause a suspension or expulsion.
