So basically what we have with Bill Ackman and other legacy admits to Ivys is affirmative action for the wealthy, mostly white elites. |
This was almost 30 years ago, standards were higher then. |
To put this into perspective, check out these stats: "Harvard gives preference to applicants who are recruited athletes, legacies, relatives of donors and children of faculty and staff. As a group, they make up less than 5 percent of applicants, but around 30 percent of those admitted each year. About 67.8 percent of these applicants are white, according to court papers." https://www.nytimes.com/2023/07/25/us/politics/harvard-admissions-civil-rights-inquiry.html#:~:text=Harvard%20gives%20preference%20to%20applicants,of%20those%20admitted%20each%20year. |
Unless you're a megadonor's kid, they will not hesitate to railroad a teen undergrad for this. |
What precisely makes her a academic superstar? Absolutely nothing. Something very strange about this unimpressive bozo becoming a famous academic, hobnobbing with Brad Pitt, then marrying a billionaire and now has this rich schmuck under her spell. |
And the US is roughly 58% white, so 67.8 % is not too out there. Moreover, if you consider the makeup of these preferred applicants, my guess is that whites make up more than 58% and probably more than 67.8%. Not issue here. |
He is so unhinged on twitter all weekend. He sure isn't a fan of getting a taste of his own medicine. |
I think the more telling statistic is that 30 percent of admitted students are legacy admits. Remember that anti-DEI proponents like Ackman believe that admissions should be solely on the base of "merit." |
He's certainly not very mature or self-restrained. I can't believe he doesn't employ or listen to a PR expert who can help him manage his tweets and public response better. I guess when you're that rich you don't really care--except that he does care and very much wants to control the narrative. |
He wants to tell everyone what to think and believe, no matter the truth. People like that are dangerous megalomaniacs. |
