Look, no one is denying that Gay is a plagiarist. It’s just that whomever is chasing down these cheaters must have a clean slate themselves. If the wife of this dude is a plagiarist, he may not be in the best position to judge. |
But I thought this was all about cleaning up academia? Is he going after all journalists and universities? Or just the ones digging into his wife? |
Hmm I wonder.. |
He was explicit and going after the three who testified in Congress. Now he appears to be going after all of higher education. |
At first I thought he was only going after MIT next, particularly because he thinks that the source that leaked the story to Business Insider about his wife's plagiarism is someone at MIT (so clearly partly a revenge motive there). But I just checked his tweets again and it does appear as if he's going after academia in general: "But it wasn’t just the MIT faculty that did not sleep last night. The @Harvard faculty, its governing board members, and its administrative leadership did not sleep either. Because why would we stop at MIT? Don’t we have to do a deep dive into academic integrity at Harvard as well? What about Yale, Princeton, Stanford, Penn, Dartmouth? You get the point." You can read his whole screed about how he plans to "save higher education from itself" here: https://x.com/BillAckman/status/1743792224020619450?s=20 |
| This story is the Benghazi of the week. |
|
The guy seems to be scrambling a bit now. He is writing the he wants for there to be some kind off acceptable percentage of plagiarism????
|
Everyone in academia knows that everyone makes insignificant paperwork errors like these two. The bad faith media conflates misplaced quotation marks with copying a whole research result. |
Why does the bolder even matter? I certainly don’t care. He’s not judging whether something is plagiarism, that’s for the individual institutions. He is just bringing potential plagiarism to light. I don’t really understand why the actions of his wife matter at all here. MIT can deal with her, as Harvard dealt with Gay. Obviously the universities are incapable or unwilling to look for plagiarism, but they seem to be dealing with it when it is served up on a platter in front of them. |
First of all, why has he suddenly decided to take on this monumental task? Who appointed him? Secondly, I don’t want a hypocrite preaching ethics in academia. His wife apparently directly quoted wiki articles, this is such a juvenile faux pas, so juvenile that she must be a fraud imo. |
| She has a PhD from MIT, it’s usually drilled into undergrads, or should be, to refrain from using Wikipedia as a reliable source. |
He is doing it to further Israel. He does not care about anything else. This is about pro Israel(good upstanding people) and all the antisemitics(everyone else). Once you accept that everything he does makes sense include the doxxing and blackballing of students and professors. |
She did her undergrad in Israel, her father is a bigwig professor at Israel’s premiere STEM university. 10 bucks says strings were pulled to get her into MIT. The PhD admissions process is much more opaque and based on relationships. She likely benefitted from the opposite of DEI: good ol nepotism. If Bill was an honest broker of information, he’d commission an investigation into the corruption of med school admissions in the U.S. There’s a side door for rich kids whose parents are surgeons or other wealthy specialty practices. |
Just a point of correction--she started her undergrad degree in Israel and completed it in the UK. "She began her architectural studies at Technion Israel Institute of Technology and finished her degree at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London, graduating in 2004." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neri_Oxman |
This is blatantly obvious now to everyone, I feel a little embarrassed for Ackman. He must be so humiliated. Everyone makes mistakes though. |
