DP. This is strange and not the norm. |
Ah so like Biden — who is actually more English than Irish Irish Americans who are 7/8 generations in are fractionally Irish for the most part The fact that many people use the Irish-American example to equate it to modern Jewry is a signal that it is an arg made by a wholly unserious person You should’ve used Cuban-Americans as an example instead — it would’ve been more credible |
You need to go hang out in an Irish pub more often |
Wrong. I’m 3/4 Irish. Most of my relatives are around 3/4 or more Irish ancestry. My ancestors only started marrying out of the Irish community in the 20th c. You don’t know as much as you think you do. Dunning-Kruger. |
If you didn't cheer for Bill the Butcher in Gangs of New York, you aren't a real American. |
Considering Ireland’s posture on Israel, you are a perfect example of plastic paddies being completely removed from modern Ireland. |
What level of care about Israel are we not permitted to exceed if we want to remain in America? Is it, like, a measure of how many Knesset members’ names we know? Total number of visits to Israel in a lifetime? What if we once rooted for Israel in a World Baseball Classic game on TV??? You do realize you’re basically echoing the old Jew-hating idea that Jews aren’t really loyal citizens to any country we live in, right? |
The IRA was funded by hats being passed in Boston bars. For the Irish who see themselves as Irish, it is the norm |
That’s a weird non-sequitur. Where did the PP express an opinion about Israel? Nowhere |
I had the same reaction reading that comment. Is there a bingo card of caring about Israel and if we get 5 in a row we have to move? Do I need to disavow my siblings and their children who live there? Should I have the trees I planted through JNF pulled out of the ground? Does my kid's birthright trip last year make me ineligble to remain in the US? Please tell me how I prove my loyalty to America to keep me from being shown the door. |
The whole analogy is flawed, anyway, though, because none of these other ethnic groups have given up the characteristic that is actually the basis for Jews' connections to Israel, i.e., their religion. Very few American Jews are descended from people who were born in Israel recently; most Israeli Jews are not even Ashkenazi, which is by far the dominant subgroup among American Jews. So it's not like Jews just haven't given up their ties to "the old country" or whatever. As I posted in another reply, though, the whole line of reasoning appears to be that Jews just aren't loyal Americans by dint of being Jewish, so I guess trying to argue rationally with it is pointless. But if you're going to spout antisemitic conspiracy theories, whether you mean to or not, at least try to make the internal logic of your argument consistent? |

Walmart is the latest advertiser to pull ads from Elon Musk’s X
"Craig Atkinson, chief executive officer of digital marketing agency Code3, told CNN it’s not surprising companies are pulling ads and he sees “no way to unring this bell." https://www.cnn.com/2023/12/01/business/walmart-advertiser-ads-x-elon-musk/index.html |
Companies that have already pulled their ads: Disney Comcast Apple NBCUniversal Discovery Paramount Lionsgate Warner Bros |
You can care about Israel a lot. You can really really care about Israel. You can care about Israel as much as you want. You don't have to apologize or explain yourself. -A non Jew And even if I was Jewish person, it be ok if I said this. |
Meant to say "would be ok" |
