Chap Peterson sued to keep a Confederate memorial statue in front of Fairfax Courthouse. In 2020.
He's way off-base with the values of the area and local Democrats. |
Fortunately, nobody did that. Hooray! |
THIS! Sang Yi signs were all over the city and I fully expected him to win by at least 10 points. I should of known Read had a shot when I started receiving mailers from Mark Warner and Tim Kaine endorsing her, as well as Gerry Connolly. Fairfax City elections used to be very low-profile and non-partisan, Read knew she would go down the flames if it stayed that way so she made it divisive and partisan in order to gin up enough Karen votes to win. One thing that is funny is that even though she had the full support of the entire VA dem establishment she barely won. Goes to show that she was a weird candidate and that many Dems did not vote for her. |
Primary voters rejected two 16-year moderate Democrat incumbents for a one-term school board member that nobody really knows/likes and a random dude who was once the treasurer at Fairfax Dems. So yes, unfortunately many people did that. |
Only if you define "wackjob" as "non-incumbent I dislike", but who would do that? |
Chap lost because he ignored half of his district. He didn't do any campaigning in Falls Church City, and instead decided to campaign with other people in Fairfax and totally forget about Falls Church. He got what he deserved (and so did Sang Yi, who is a far-right Trumper) |
That's not what happened though. Sang Yi was the one that politicized the race when he hosted big-dollar fundraisers with Glenn Youngkin. You can't blame Reid for reminding voters that Sang Yi is a Republican and worked for Jim Jordan! |
He a Democrat from a different century. He’s no moderate. |
Voters rejected those two incumbents you speak of because both of their districts significantly changed and the challengers had much stronger ties to the new hearts of the district. Both Barker and Petersen really ignored the new parts of their district. Especially Petersen, who didn't show up to stuff in Falls Church because he said we hated him (which is true, but still, you're running to be our senator, you best show up). And also because both of them were way too conservative. A man who supported Confederate monuments, and opposed an assault weapons ban isn't going to be popular in Falls Church and Fairfax. But if you think voters rejected experience, take the case of Dave Marsden for example. He was up against big money from the far-left and challenged by a candidate who just moved into the district and had no experience. Dave knocked on the doors, and showed up to community events, which Chap and George didn't. And Dave won - by a lot! |
Why on earth would you expect a forced birther Trumper to win? |
