Because the chairwoman wanted them built in the rural crescent area of PWC. Loudoun politicians, both dems and reps have a unified goal of keeping western loudoun rural, which means they entirely oppose data centers in western loudoun. Dems in PWC don’t seem to get the point.

+1. Dems in eastern loudoun are quite reasonable and never get more then a lean margin, and western loudoun is ruby red. like 70%+ in some areas. Something for everyone.

I do understand that Chap Petersen did things that many on the left deem "conservative" but in all reality Chap was a standard liberal who was essential in building up the Democratic party in Fairfax back in the early 2000's. I think the fact that he gave credibility to Republican viewpoints on Covid restrictions/masks in schools drove the local Dem apparatus absolutely insane and they were going to stop at nothing to defeat him. He literally had a "F" rating from the NRA and was backed by Clean Virginia but apparently him thinking that 5 year olds shouldn't be forced to mask all day in 2022 was a bridge to far.

Steve Descano won simply because of braindead white liberals who read Blue Virginia and convinced themselves that Nuttall was some sort of MAGA Republican. The Asian areas in western Fairfax rejected Descano while the white liberal areas voted for him.

NoVA used to have some amazing Democrats representing the area. They supported gay rights, the environment, and strong schools. They kept crime low and were not partisan hacks who spend all day on social media fear-mongering and yelling.

The reason many people moved to this area was due to the good governance and stable environment. The rise in crime and decline of the public school is sad to see yet it seems like a majority of NoVA voters support it for whatever delusional reason.

I miss the NoVA Dems of 2015 and the sane leadership they had. The Republicans can be nutjobs at times who I wholeheartedly tend to disagree with on certain issues. I voted for all the local Dems in 2019 and didn't think twice about it. I wrongly assumed they would govern like their predecessors.

I feel politically homeless on the local level right now and I am concerned about the direction Fairfax is headed in. Long gone are the days where good governance and moderate politicians ran things up here.

Maybe I am wrong about all of this, I don't know. How does everyone else feel?

I don't want to vote R but I do not want to vote for the absolute loons who won yesterday.

I live in State Senate district 36 and I am considering casting my vote for the Republican candidate (Julie Perry I think?) this fall. She is a local FCPS teacher and I think the state government would benefit from her perspective.

Pekarsky seems like a nice individual but she has a horrific record and did absolutely nothing on the school board. Don't understand the appeal behind her.

If Perry ends up being some MAGA nutjob I'll just sit this one out.

I’m glad chap lost because of his stance on guns and some other things. But the rest of these races are sad. Low voter turnout in primaries means we are stuck with the choice if party activists and moderates don’t get a voice. The fact that three school board members won yesterday shows how out of touch party activists are with most voters.

This election is like many other local elections in that low-knowledge voters cast ballots based largely on name recognition and incumbency. Peterson was an exception, because the local Democratic establishment invested serious money in unseating him, but otherwise that's why the three School Board members who have accomplished little in office won their primaries.

Barker ended up getting redistricted into a new district that was comprised largely of Pekarsky's magisterial district on the School Board. Cohen and Keys Gamarra ran in contests with multiple candidates, so they won based on name recognition, not performance. They might actually do less harm in the state legislature than the local School Board, although it won't help Fairfax to lose people with seniority and instead be represented by folks with neither tenure nor brains.

In other two-person races, incumbents like McKay and Descano didn't exactly blow away their opponents, but again the benefits of incumbency and name recognition can't be exaggerated. McKay is vanilla on the surface, so people don't pay attention to how he's basically looking to screw northern and western Fairfax. Descano is incompetent as a prosecutor, but benefited from the fact that most people have no interaction with the Commonwealth's Attorney; in addition, he ran a lot of ads to suggest that Nuttell was anti-choice.

Yup, I voted for Salim because of his strong stance on gun control. Peterson voted against an assault rifle ban in 2020. Voted for Descano bc I think he’s doing a fair job and Nuttal had too many Republican endorsements for my comfort. Voted against McKay but knew that was a long shot. I’m pretty much thrilled with the results.

My kids voted for Saldem even tho we had Petterson signs and we told them to vote for Chap.
