Good riddance. We are better off without conservative trash.
Agree and disagree. Reactionary social conservatives are awful but Sang Yi, Chap Petersen, and George Barker do not even come remotely close to falling in that category. Rejecting moderate, experienced politicians for unknown, unexperienced wackjobs is not the solution. These people only care about themselves and do not care at all about the quality of the community.
Fortunately, nobody did that. Hooray!
Primary voters rejected two 16-year moderate Democrat incumbents for a one-term school board member that nobody really knows/likes and a random dude who was once the treasurer at Fairfax Dems. So yes, unfortunately, many people did that.
Voters rejected those two incumbents you speak of because both of their districts significantly changed and the challengers had much stronger ties to the new hearts of the district. Both Barker and Petersen really ignored the new parts of their district. Especially Petersen, who didn't show up to stuff in Falls Church because he said we hated him (which is true, but still, you're running to be our senator, you best show up). And also because both of them were way too conservative. A man who supported Confederate monuments, and opposed an assault weapons ban isn't going to be popular in Falls Church and Fairfax. But if you think voters rejected experience, take the case of Dave Marsden for example. He was up against big money from the far-left and challenged by a candidate who just moved into the district and had no experience. Dave knocked on the doors, and showed up to community events, which Chap and George didn't. And Dave won - by a lot!
