No, I actually rarely talk about politics in person. And I don't really understand your point.

But the right wing conservatives in my life just can't or won't stop talking politics. I think they consume a lot more political news media than the rest of us, and are usually angry.

My MAGA relatives and in-laws constantly want to bring politics up. I had to make it a rule, no politics discussion. Every once in a while someone still pushes it tho, I usually manage to change the subject but on at least two instances have the visit end early.

So, if anyone says, “I’m not political”, it could be a sign.

Interesting, I’ve found it true about people who aren’t born Americans, who just want to live life and pay as little tax as possible and invest in their kids’ well being. So yes they aren’t political I guess. They also don’t support progressive causes though

You’re probably the only person on this board who knows actual immigrants. I’m a first-generation immigrant and I didn’t come here because of culture wars. I don’t share the “progressive” vision, I don’t share the “conservative” vision.

I want to be left alone by both progressives and conservatives to live a quiet life in a country that’s not at war. Right now, I vote Republican because I want as much of my money left in my pocket as possible so I can take care of my children to MY satisfaction. The whole idea that the government gets to take more and more of my money in order to fund inefficient social programs falls on deaf ears with me and most immigrants. We see how the American government has “helped” African Americans. No, thanks.

Also, I don’t trust Democrats’ hostility to homeschooling and their need to centralize all education in order to control the next generation. When it was clear to me that American schools were going to completely fail in the pandemic under the leadership of complete idiots like Randi Weingarten, I pulled my children and homeschooled them, and they’re far ahead of even their wealthy peers now. It was hard, and took a toll on my health, but where I come from, you sacrifice everything for your children and you make no excuses.

I don’t want some arrogant ideologues telling me how to raise my children. I couldn’t care less about my children learning about diversity in school because I will teach them about my culture and proud history. I don’t want my children learning about other people’s sexualities and proclivities. I’m not raising them to be sexually profligate or to live life as libertines. I don’t want men performing sex acts in the name of pride to be normalized to them know I do I want men living as parodies of women to be normalized. I don’t care at all about what Democrats consider to be “acceptance”. Tolerance is all I offer. I won’t say a word about people who I think are living immoral and disgusting lives. I’ll be polite, but I’m absolutely not going to accept them in my heart as normal or teach my children to be like them. School should stick to the basics and stop trying to sneak subjective values on kids.

As long as there’s an exception for the health/life of the mom (as documented by doctors, not self-serving claims), rape, and incest, I don’t care if abortion is completely banned in other situations. I don’t sympathize with those who voluntarily spread their legs and then want to play victim. As women, we know the burden of childbearing falls on us. Choose wisely and live with your decisions.

The Democrats agenda about guns is very stupid. I grew up with guns, as did everyone in my home country, yet school shootings are unheard of in my home country. It’s not the guns. It’s the cultural rot that’s making people here shoot random strangers. There’s a crisis of mental health and horrible values in this country, and Democrats are only accelerating the degradation of this once proud society by distributing hormones and psychotropics on demand to confused youths. Giving up guns so only criminal minded, deranged Americans have guns is crazy.

Democratic are going to see that most immigrants do not support them and are not going to support them. Just because we’re not white doesn’t mean we’re going to be fooled by some white person with a greasy smile who claims to be our ally protecting us from racism, but is actually seeking radical control of us and to use us as foot soldiers in culture wars. Those lies work on African Americans, but everyone else is waking up. As the country becomes more immigrant, Republicans will win more and more until Democrats drop the sneaky agenda.

What a distorted view of the world and politics. I feel sorry for you.

You shouldn’t. Her kids will play your kids like a fiddle when they grow up, with their head in the clouds tolerance worldview. Her kids will know things like they are and will advance without lalaland ideas

After being…. Homeschooled. By that person. I don’t think so.

They might not know when pride month is but they will know their maths and grammar

That’s shameful because there is a very rich civil rights history in our nation that you’ve decided to call home, and that history includes the civil rights movement for the LGBTQ community. That you choose to ignore that history tells me you’re doing a crappy job.

But it’s also stupid. Who doesn’t know when pride month is? Do you live under a rock?

Oh, wait….. got it. Never mind.

I am not the homeschooling poster. History is different than the current push it down their throats propaganda. Should gay people have rights? Yes of course just like all of us. Should they have a whole month dedicated to them? Why not but I don’t want to participate. Public school spends time on talking about it instead of teaching math or say cursive and that’s my problem with it.

You've described the liberals perfectly. Especially those under 35. I'm not particularly conservative, but I'm sick to my eyeballs of hearing partisan politics discussed every day at work.

They offer the ideas, the party line if you please, and then companies are happy to act along these lines because they think it’s good for business.
Self sensorship and all that.
Worked with federal covid rules too - some states went even further than the official party line, it was insane.
In our school district, the sup was the last one to stop mandating masks at school - all the neighboring districts made them recommended but he wouldn’t cave until parents brought in what was characterized as a maga mob who filmed a preschool kid being denied education due to mask refusal (she was special needs and couldn’t be assessed because she wouldn’t wear a mask). The county board of education didn’t like that publicity and basically told him to cave. Lots of indignation ensued but it was the only way to make him snap out of it, unfortunately. Things like that make me want to vote GOP tbh.

Your maga political heroes were first in line to get the covid vax.

I don’t care about who gets the vaccine, I got one too, but don’t force me. Also I am not maga (but to you anyone who isn’t a progressive liberal dem is maga, I get it).

Completely agree, on all counts.

PP you are replying to; I am first Gen myself.
I think the whole abortion debate is stupid (of course it should be pro choice like any civilized country). I also think all this trans and lgbtq nonsense is stupid (of course they should have rights like all of us but it shouldn’t be a constant celebration or forgetting biology altogether).
I am not into politics because I think both sides have lost their minds. I will vote for Dems in the federal because I am a low earner, and I will support the most conservative candidate to be realistically elected at the local level because I am in the blue state and we should balance out the crazies with their progressive ideas but that’s too complicated to explain to a layperson so I just stick to the “I am not political” trope

But this country is not pro choice. So the threat to women is very real and very not stupid. Recent immigrants may not realize how severely women's rights have been crushed by the backwards conservatives. They have taken rights away that were in place for 50 years. Don't be ignorant.

Ok fine but what do you suggest? The whole existence of the pro life idea is super backwards. But Dems have so many crazy ideas as well, and honestly some of them are more dangerous for my family than abortion ban. If my son gets a girl pregnant she can either go to a sanctuary state for an abortion or give me the child, whatever she prefers. I am willing to help her with either option. I can’t get outraged on behalf of some woman I don’t know. However the ideas of endless masking or mandatory covid shots for young people hit close to home. The idea of letting the crazy homeless run amok is also something that has direct influence on my life. See what I am getting at?

Good luck finding a young female that will go anywhere your maga son. Gen z voters are not ignorant they have no intention of supporting policies that turn the clock backwards on their rights.

He isn’t maga you doofus, he is a kid. I am talking about MY voting preferences. See, this is the thing. You can’t see nuance (that I am pro choice but it’s not top of my list), and you get so enraged that someone dares to disagree with you that you resort to personal insults.
That’s why we, the immigrants, don’t like your kind

Ok. Sure. In your ridiculous little fantasy, your progressive son and his progressive pregnant girlfriend are either going to go to a different state to get an abortion or the pregnancy will have no issues or complications or difficulties and she will carry the pregnancy and deliver in some anti women's healthcare maga state and give maga grandma the baby.

It’s YOUR fantasy. What I am saying is that luckily the US has states to fit all kinds of people and situations. Sucks to be a poor woman in a deep red state but otherwise it’s not that terrible.

This is what was posted "If my son gets a girl pregnant she can either go to a sanctuary state for an abortion or give me the child, whatever she prefers".

Oh, I hear you! Similarly, the under 35 group in our extended family spend time talking about social justice and the rights of minorities (I agree that's an important subject), yet they attended highly ranked private high schools and colleges in New England states with little diversity. The rest of us have spent years in nursing, social work, and teaching fields actually trying to help kids from all backgrounds.

That is if she doesn’t want the child. If she does she has other options of course. There’s no fantasy. I am just saying that unless you are a poor woman in a red state you are not that bad. That’s why I can’t really take this issue to heart.

Cursive? Send your kid to Catholic school. This is 2023 and humans need to know how to use a keyboard. You sound like my mom with her very nice handwriting but struggles to send an email.

Why should I try to avoid public education? Aren’t we in a civilized country? Also, why fixation on cursive? How about math, grammar, and reading classics?

In my experience, it's also the LWNJ running their mouths about PRIDE, DEIA and Trump. Everyone else just keeps their thoughts to themselves.

Not that bad? I have higher hopes for the healthcare options for my children. Access to quality professionals using the latest and greatest medical standards without interference from politicians or lawyers or vigilantes is a lot better than "not that bad". Enjoy the damaged healthcare system for women in Gilead.
