Yes, VA has a racist, Nazi problem. 1. If you think Youngkin is lowering taxes you are an idiot. When have Republicans ever done that? History tells us you are an idiot. 2. Schools VA schools are going to die under your boy Youngkin it will be like Alabama. What do you not understand about the Betsey DeVos model? Privatizing schools for the religious rights money scams? 3. You are a NAZI go back to your hole. Your vocaublary is Discusting! |
PP here. Racism is a overreaching statement that does not characterize the vast majority of confederate statue defenders. Is Glenn Youngkin a racist? Are all republicans racist? Racism is not a one all be all, is not appropriate to label people as such. |
I apologize for my vocabulary, I was just amplifying my tone in the statment and meant no reference to those genicides. |
Who cares. The statues are being taken down. End of an era, end of story to most people. Focus on other things. |
Why then is it so damn important to defend monuments glorifying a brief but brutal and violent 4 years of horrible history culminating as a result of clinging to barbaric slavery, which resulted in the unnecessary deaths of 600,000 Americans? |
Re: #2. Actually it will be like Virginia. Post-1954, some areas of Virginia supported private “segregation academies” for the white students. One Virginia county actually closed its public school system, leaving Black student and their tax paying families without public school education for 5 years. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/nov/27/integration-public-schools-massive-resistance-virginia-1950s |
Then please explain all of the non-racist reasons for keeping these monuments to white supremacy. Why are they defending these traitors who killed 600k Americans in an effort to keep 4M Americans enslaved? |
Your culture is celebrating slave holding traitors to our nation? |
Robert E Lee was embarrassed by his own legacy and did not want to be celebrated. |
These are names from the past and it’s appropriate to rename buildings that bear the names of racists. More recently, however, DC used taxpayer funds to erect a statue downtown of ex-mayor Marion Barry who expressed notoriously racist views, particularly about Asians. His name also prominently adorns (stains may be a more apt word) a large DC government building at 14th and U Streets. Shouldn’t Barry’s name be removed and the statue exiled to a museum or something? |
Well said. The statues and street names were tools to intimidate black people and put them in their place. These statues and street names started popping up right around the time the Klan started to become more prominent. Now you wouldn't name a street Hitler Highway, would you? I see no need for a street to be named Jefferson Davis Highway. |
