+1 -- in fact, here in the neighborhood, it looked overdone - Conn Ave blocked from Albemarle to Porter. |
| I was down the street at heard the gun shots. I used to live right where this happened. Was only around for a brief errand - where I actually wondered if I was safe and thought I was being silly. On the previous post about the women thrown out of the building with her legs tied for saying the neighborhood was in free fall. What will it take for people to accept that crime in nw dc is off the chain? Since we moved just within a couple of blocks there has been armed robbery, shootings, and a stabbing in broad daylight. |
The perpetrator set up a sniper nest with a tripod and multiple semiautomatic weapons. He targeted a school less than 100 yards away. He did so at the time of dismissal. He shot dozens of rounds at students and parents/caregivers, injuring four. There is reason to believe that at least one victim has multiple wounds. Several rounds struck vehicles snd businesses blocks away. But this isn’t a gun issue? Cool. |
I initially thought that was a bit extreme as well. But since a bullet shattered a window at Byblos Deli, which is south of Porter, it may not have been enough. |
Not at all overdone when you consider the fact that shots from his high-powered firearms damaged buildings as far away as the Uptown Theatre area, plus the need to have safe staging space for police, EMS, and other first responders… not overdone at all. |
I know. We need a movement to address mental and integrative health in this country, like the effort and attention put towards climate change. It needs to be an all in approach, including SEL in schools, healthy lifestyle. investment in community structures like clubhouses and group activities (as people have pulled away from organized religion, what's replaced that?), access to therapy, and commitment including involuntary. |
hill to die on... interesting choice of words. I am fine with my views that DC has a weird dysfunction towards gun crime, having struggled for so long to keep legal gun ownership out of the District yet our AGs views towards gun possessionby felons no less speak for themself. If you don't see how that ties in to people's inevitable questions about gun possession, laws and attitudes that arise after crimes like this, and rising violent crime in the District, OK. I respect the very specific points you made as well. Moving on, happily and alive. |
Lol this is why we don't let people that don't really know what they're talking about other than "guns bad" make laws |
It was an active shooter situation with high powered assault weapons. LE didn’t know if nearby embassy properties were being targeted. LE didn’t know if the perpetrator was inside the school. They didn’t know if there were multiple shooters. There is a Metro station a block away. There are multiple schools and a daycare. A number of Burke students were being sheltered at a nearby location. FFS even the White House went into an enhanced security posture with Secret Service armed with tactical weapons. But, sure, keep a few blocks of Connecticut open so your neighborhood street street isn’t congested. |
There's not really a "trail" of much of anything on 4chan, most posts are deleted within a few hours. They did archive and save his initial posts with a video link but there were only 2-3 and they didn't say much really. |
I also have these same questions. |
And silence from DCPS on the incident?!? |
We received an email from Jackson-Reed saying, in part, this:
|
I was one of the first posters that said something about not seeing this reaction outside of upper NW. I will admit, I was very wrong. I thought it was a domestic incident inside or near the apartment. I take back what I said and I apologize. |
|
Did the shooter live in the apartment he used to do the shooting ??? Was it his apartment ??? If not, whose apartment was it ???
Was he a former student at Burke ??? Did he know anyone at Burke ??? When will we know any of this info ??? |
