But go ahead, quit your teaching job while you still frequent the grocery stores staffed by...people around maskless people. And muzzle toddlers because...science!

That’s not what he said. What he said is that it will “find” almost everyone — that is, he’s talking about exposure. Exposure is *not* the same thing as infection or illness.

Being boosted and wearing a mask is how you prevent exposure from becoming an infection. Egads, the lack of scientific literacy drives me crazy.

Seriously? Have you not been following the Omicron surge? I'm boosted and wear a KN95 mask at my school. I still caught Covid from one of my students (who wears KF94 masks). No surprise... I often sit right next to this student to help them out throughout the day. My bout with Covid happened for a couple of days at the beginning of winter break, and my symptoms were a scratchy throat and sniffly/stuffy nose. The key is VACCINATION not masks.

The key is both. My whole family is vaxed and boosted and wear KN95 masks and none of us have ever had covid. We have been close contacts and around people who ended up with covid but not us. See how anecdotal evidence doesn't mean anything?

But you know that you will all catch it eventually, right? Or are you all planning to wear KN95 masks for the rest of your lives?

DP
DH and I are both ES teachers. Neither of us wear KN95 masks. We’ve never caught Covid. Or maybe we have? Who knows? Have I ever had the flu? I’ve never been diagnosed with the flu. My point is we contact with viruses and they usually don’t make us sick. I’m not buying into the idea that we will all eventually catch Covid in the sense that we will all get sick from it.

^^^ So this means that we do not need a mask mandate, right?

PP here.
I don’t know how much good they do and I have no interest in teaching in an KN95.

Then you can teach the maskless kids.

Vaccination is most important, but we're not getting 100% vacciation and masks lowers transmission. If everyone was 100% vaccinated and boosted I'd say we could get rid of masks. But that's not yet the case.

I wonder how this will affect friendships among tween and teens. I'm sure many kids will be surprised to learn the person they like in XYZ class is a "MAGA insurrectionist" or "woke liberal sheep" or whatever insult one side calls the other

In federal law, a law would trump an EO. An EO can act as law where there is no law. I’m not sure if that is true in VA law. This could be a BS moot point. I hope it does work the same way and Youngkin looks like the inexperienced fool that he is. Republicans are supposed to be all about local control. What. The. Heck.

Reminder: anyone on here can claim to be a teacher, a FCPS parent, etc but could be lying. In all likelihood, a good percentage of posters here are lying, and have nothing to do with FCPS and perhaps don’t even live in the county, but are posting here because of nefarious motivations. There is a huge nationwide movement to sow division and chaos at the local levels. So just take these boards with a huge grain of salt.

Not in a corner, but I’ll update my seating chart for sure.

But what if it is one/two kids? Do you put them in the back together?

Why not?

And as of right now - FCPS said they’re requiring masks.

But if I understand the EO correctly, it doesn’t matter what FCPS requires—parents can opt out. And there’s no procedure or process for opting out. It’s as simple as just sending your kid maskless

And FCPS said - we don't care - masks are the rule under SB1303.

I’m a teacher. So does this mean I can stop enforcing the masks? I hope so. I’m tired of it all.

+1000- Any time mask off ramp dude pops up I know someone in the middle of nowhere is bored and found our board. He basically says the same thing on both virginia boards- so that is one clue.

It will never be the case. So you say we should mask forever?

Well I certainly hope FCPS’ stance prevails, but who decides?

And FCPS said - we don't care - masks are the rule under SB1303.
