Seriously with the book banning ?

I remain in awe that the GOP supports literal book banning and pretends that they’re not fascist.

When I was growing up Forever by Judy Blume was the book that all the girls read to each other in secret after getting it from the adult's area of the library but wasn't found in any children's book area or in any elementary, middle, or high school library. It's my gauge of whether or not we are changing status for sex in books. Anyone know if it's allowed in a school library these days?

Considering books with images of oral sex are allowed, I doubt anyone is batting an eye at “Forever”.

The fascists are currently over on the Elon Musk/Twitter thread pretending that the right wing is all about free speech.

How does everyone feel about The Bell Curve in school libraries?

You think a lot of elementary schools have The Bell Curve in their library? Have you ever been to elementary school?

I feel like it's a clumsy attempt at creating a straw man to justify banning a book about unicorns.

Some parts of the country are just more comfortable with different forms of censorship. There really isn't anyone that's against censorship.

Lol, you're talking about Mein Kampf and Protocols of the Elders of Zion.

People have stated in this very thread that Mein Kampf should be in libraries.

I just checked. 3 copies available in my local library and I’m not going to complain.

So can we let the kids have the unicorn book now?

Gee, who could guess that government officials banning books were not respecting processes to m uphold the 1st Amendment? They are so dystopian.

“Processes aimed to uphold the First Amendment in the context of school book challenges are not being followed. Of bans in the Index, 98% involve departures from best practice guidelines for how school authorities may remove books; most bans and restrictions have occurred without proper written forms, review committees, or transparency. While school boards and administrators do have some discretion over library and instructional materials, there are safeguards and best practices meant to protect students’ First Amendment rights that are being widely abrogated.”

I’d really be interested in seeing what it is that Florida is calling “CRT” in a math book. Really. Maybe Kobe ended up with more apples than Kristie? /s

It does stand out that examples and titles aren’t listed — so their judgments can’t be assessed at all, let alone assessed accurately.
So “CRT” now means whatever these Republican politicians want it to mean, and they’re using their personal standards to impact the education of millions of students with no explicit standards or opportunities for assessment. This is America folks.

Yes, I’m shocked, SHOCKED that the Florida Department of Education did not provide examples.
