Why would you buy a high-end gas car now?

Electric cars have virtues, but still have the battery issue. I also don't drive very far (I put on 5k in the past year) so I don't consume that much gas either.

Last but not least, I really don't care either. And no goading by sanctimonious environmentalists shrieking in my face is going to do anything to convince me of their righteous cause.

Why are you concerned about battery issues if you drive 5k a year? Are you afraid you won’t have enough range?

The disposal of used batteries kills the argument that electric cars are more environmentally friendly.

So you don't buy an electric car because they are not environmentally friendly since the batteries can't be recycled?

It does weaken the argument noticeably.

I will buy an electric car someday, because we all will eventually. But I'm not in a rush to get one. And this is one reason.

You can get an electric VW SUV for $39,900, which is eligible for a $7,500 tax credit, and then you never pay for gas. It's not THAT much more expensive than a new gas Tiguan would be.

Tesla breaks the $1T as the 5th most valuable S&P company. Needless to say the other car manufacturers are far behind.

ok, you are a laggard in the adoption curve. Not an issue, buy what you like. Most people I know would seriously consider electric when shopping for a new car.

At best -- on a good day, Tesla is worth 50-60 billion. Nothing to sneeze at. It is not worth hundreds of billions. They don't have the sales to justify. They don't even have the technology to justify. They did a great job getting where they are. But there is nothing behind these numbers. Even if you disagree and say I am off by a lot and the value is 500 billion -- that is a huge fall.

Meanwhile, people that invested early in Tesla are busy counting their money.

My issue with your post is that you think you know better then the rest of the world and that includes sophisticated teams of analysts that do this as their daily job, with decades of experience. I like how you pin the Tesla valuation out of thin air between 50 to 500 billion, that was really funny. If you are si confident I dare you to take your retirement and a second mortgage and short Tesla. If you $50B valuation is correct you’ll make 20x in the blink of an eye.

You are in dire need of a pinch of humility.

I'd love to get one but as a condo dweller, I don't have the option to charge where I live. Plus Tesla cars are ugly.

And most people still don't buy electric cars....

You seem to have an odd way of judging people for not rushing to get electric cars.

I'm not judging anybody. Most people still don't buy electric cars... today. The rate of change, though, paints a very different picture of the future.

These guys drove across the country in 42 hours in a Tesla using the super charger network. This should help with those going the distance. .
