Try to top my MIL story

Anonymous
This weekend, my MIL gave my 2.5 year old son his first haircut without our knowledge or consent. Good bye to all of his beautiful curls

He NEVER had a haircut in 2 1/2 years?

It's just hair. Get over it. She probably thought she was doing you a favor. You can take him for all of the other hundreds of haircuts he will need before he leaves for college.

OP here: Nope, no hair cuts in 2.5 years. It grew late and when it did it is very curly so wasn't that long. PP: I am over it, my DH not so much.

Really? This is all u can say? I have known 4 yos who haven't needed haircuts.

OP, I a sooooo sorry. I got my son's curls cut off bc he was so hot and i was so devastated after. But I made the choice. I am flabbergasted by your MIL.

Your MIL is a complete asshole. Why the hell would she do that without your permission? Talk about overstepping boundaries and bad judgment. You must feel pissed off and also sad and nostalgic. (Fwiw, my 2.5 yo daughter has never had a haircut either, and I would be livid if someone took it upon themselves to cut her hair without my knowledge or permission. Of course, she still hardly has any hair, so I suppose it's moot for now!) What does your spouse say about it??

my dh once had to wrestle the phone away from his mother because she was calling 911. she said she caught me trying to smother the baby with a pacifier.

That was a ballsy move. I would have also been PISSED.

I would be irritated royally at my MIL and stop trusting her to use decent common sense when it came to my kids.

But I'm guessing there are worse MIL stories out there. Much much worse...

PP here.

See. This one is definitely worse.

OP again: Agreed, that is worse. I love my MIL but was appalled that she thought this would be okay.

Eek, not only would I be pissed, but seriously concerned about what she'd do with my child next time they're alone together.
She sounds nuts. Sorry, OP.

My take:

OP, your MIL is a pain in the ass, and never should have done that. First hair cuts aren't always so much fun, but it was absolutely your right to choose to wait and a huge breach of trust that she went behind your back.

Pacifier mom, I laughed so hard that I cried reading your post. Seriously. I thought my MIL was a piece of work (true story: she refused to stay in our guest room following a tiny disagreement with her son, and set up a TENT in our BACKYARD for the duration of her stay). But yours absolutely takes the cake. She actually sounds crazy more than just mean or righteous. Eeeek.

My mother, brother, and I all had straight hair. WHen my youngest brother grew little ringlets as a toddler, Mom let them grow, and grow and grow. SO CUTE! I understand your pain OP.

My MIL said she was coming for Christmas last year and didn't show...and said she was coming for Christening, and didn't show (after we rescheduled to accommodate her husband's optional surgery). But I think the ringlet thing would be worse. I'm not sure. I"d have to live both and HOPE I don't have to.
