Mt Prospect in North Potomac

It is N. Potomac. It shares a zip with both, however. So I get the confusion. This community does not pay city of Gaithersburg property tax and receive those related services...hence it is NOT Gaithersburg. This community is clearly outside the boundary of Darnestown when you pull up any map...hence it is NOT Darnestown. The darnestown area is west of Turkey Foot and this community is east of it.

Well stated.

Additionally, Mt. Prospect is on the extreme southern edge of North Potomac — on the furthest side away from Gaithersburg. It boarders Travilah.

I want to stay 10-20 years and i know i wont get most of my money back

It’s actually darnestown.

No, it’s North Potomac.

This has been discussed several times on this thread. It is NOT in Darnestown or Gaithersburg.

If the residents don’t pay city of Gaithersburg property tax, who do they pay then? City of North Potomac doesn’t exist when it comes to property tax

We pay taxes to Montgomery County.

Our police, fire, and recycling services are from Montgomery County, not Gaithersburg. Our trash and landscaping services are privately arranged by the HOA.

Correct. City of Gaithersburg residents pay MoCo taxes and City of Gaithersburg taxes. Mt. Prospect only pays MoCo.

I live in a windmill. This is basically gaithersburg but what is wrong with that? Potomac is like a mile away… why is everyone so crazy about this point… my zip code is that of gaithersburg and it is basically

Yes these homes are overprice. I paid 2.3 million for a decked out windmill plus finished the backyard for 2.6 million total. Yall out here spending 2.6 on windmills or just not taking design options. You will never get your money back but get to live in the prettiest community in md so thats your choice but i would never buy at these prices. To make the home I live in that would cost 2.9 million today plus the backyard so literally 3.2, thats insane. My home is 8500 sqft

Why does it matter??? It is “north potomac” but cbasically gaithersburg. We are right near potomac anyways so why is this so sensitive to yall

Having lived in Gaithersburg for the past 20+ years, North Potomac is completely different.

There aren’t high end communities like this in Gaithersburg. The schools here are better. Significantly less crime. Less developed.

There are very nice areas of Gaithersburg (like the Kentlands), but there are also areas that are not so nice (closer to 355).

Also, Gaithersburg is huge. It would take me 25-30 minutes to get to the far side of Gaithersburg from Mt. Prospect.

The city limit of Gaithersburg is 3 miles from my house. That’s the same distance as from Capitol Hill to Anacostia. Tell people who live on Capitol Hill that they essentially live in Anacostia and see how well that goes over.

"Potomac". Yeah, riiiggghtt...

FYI, Potomac and Bethesda are both an unincorporated community just like North Potomac.

My sense is people don’t like the use of “Potomac” in the area’s name. Still, that doesn’t mean the area doesn’t exist. Maybe if it had a unique name this wouldn’t be a discussion.

The reality is North Potomac IS the name of the area. Accept it and move on.
