Are you the speaker from last night who complained about developers getting a sweetheart deal who also went to the meeting on Tuesday?

Assuming you are, it’s pretty awful that you are going to meetings that don’t concern your pyramid. Stop pushing your radical agenda, very few in Fairfax are interested.

DP I think a lot of people in the county would be interested to know about these backhanded dealings.

This happened years and years ago. I posted earlier that I had a neighbor who moved --even before we had kids in school--because she wanted her children to go to Langley. We live in a "good" high school district--but not at the Langley elite level.
It was no secret. Look at the map. Those Langley neighborhoods on the Herndon side of 7. One of those neighborhoods is less than two miles from Herndon High school. At the time, Herndon had a pretty good reputation--but Langley was the "creme de la creme." There may also be some that should have been assigned to South Lakes, too.

No, but I listened to both meetings and the difference in the level of civility was stark.

there was also a madison/marshall meeting with reid before the community meeting tonight because they are both upset about being swapped. who knows the tone of that. the zoom link didn’t work

reid also said it was unlikely that grandfathered kids will get transportation tonight

TLDR - That lady who presented yesterday wants developers to make off like kings while current residents are left holding the bag. It’s a sign of our times that the equity crowd is now rooting for corporations over people.

10/16 Reid:
1. SPA's will be available in response to a question from someone dev scenarios. Community participant -Static SPA's do not account for students in new residential - ie Tysons area new builds.
2. Expects no macro changes - could be other changes for scenario 5 based on community comments and BRAC.
3. no response I heard on the 1 comment I heard on Kingsley Commons- isolated feed now to Timberlane and might be only SPA assigned to Jackson/Falls Church. It's a sad mess for that community which didn't appear to participate.
4. Relooking at TOV now assigned to Marshall in scenario 4

Lots of Lemon Rd commenters- less than 25% and some years 10% are in boundary for Longfellow/Mclean. Some want split redrawn so more goes to Mclean- ie Route 7 is the line.

Kingsley Commons might be the only SPA at Timber Lane assigned to Jackson/Falls Church, but it will account for most of "new" Timber Lane. It would be 61% of Timber Lane and 329 kids, and it would be a Timber Lane attendance island where the kids would have to cross Route 29. These kids probably would have been better off just staying at Graham Road even if GR was outside its attendance area, but they are out of luck now.

If they do this change Kingsley Commons should get to either stay with Timber Lane and go to Longfellow/McLean or the area North of 29 that goes to Timber Lane/Longfellow/McLean should all be moved to Jackson/Falls Church.

Why? Timber Lane was a 60-40 split to McLean and Falls Church, and now the percentage would flip to 40-60. Eliminate the split and you have to make some other changes that people previously objected to, such as moving part of Marshall to McLean, to have balanced enrollments.

If they’ve learned anything from this process, it’s that people don’t think attendance islands and split feeders are necessarily problems that need to be “fixed.”

The link worked for me. I didn’t notice any particular fireworks, just people at Madison objecting to being moved to Marshall and vice versa. A couple of Marshall people said they were fine moving to Madison.

I suspect that the final round will be everything staying as is before the boundary review started.

Can you please share more on what you heard about the grandfathered transportation discussion? We are in an effected area with high schoolers who want to finish (of course) at their current school. They don't drive yet so we were praying that transportation would be part of the grandfathering.

That along with them reverting back to the old 8130 would be very welcome indeed.

at the meeting there was a dad who has kids at marshall who nah be moved to madison or vice versa. he wanted to confirm with reid that if they started at a high schooled they would be grandfathered. she confirmed yes. he then said i hope there is transportation because we would rely on it. she said while it would be nice and it’s something the SB will vote on soon with budget restraints, already so many bus routes and stops and with kids grandfathered over the entire county in elementary middle and HS it seems unlikely. previously they have done it but there have been changes to one school or pyramid. not the whole county. my guess is they spin it saying we gave you what you wanted with grandfathering but we can’t also give transportation

The amendment to the policy to allow such substantial grandfathering was so stupid. Especially considering there will be another review in five years. The boundary changes will barely be done when more changes might happen. They definitely can’t provide transportation to all who choose to stay. Would be highly irresponsible to waste money that way.

If someone overpaid for a house 2 miles from Herndon HS because they thought they should get to go to Langley forever then they deserve what they get. Why do those people feel they are more entitled to a "Langley education" than the people who live much closer being moved in from McLean or the Spring Hill split feeder?

Grumble grumble.

I 100% think they did the right thing by grandfathering. Especially for high schoolers, many of which are in the pivotal academic and social years.

That B doesn’t care about Fairfax kids. She’s just hella mad because she didn’t get the bump in her property value that she’s been pushing so hard for. She thinks these kids are just tools to make some house equity!

What are you talking about? I just made a comment that I think grandfathering kids is the humane thing to do. Im not sure how that is related to property values
