right??!?

The Centreville parents didn't want a 3000 seat renovation either. Literally no one wants that.

So, put Bull Run in Westfield and Willow Spring in Centreville. Done.

It's time to make boundaries make sense. Not THRU sense, but geographic sense.

A smaller expansion to 2500 rather than 3000 would make sense. That allows Willow Springs to move to CVHS, Bull Run to move to Westfield, and CVHS to accommodate some future growth. The current school, excluding the modular, only has a program capacity of 1968, so that’s definitely on the small side.

Not sure if there is room at CVHS for Willow Springs-its a much larger school than Bull Run

2000 was the official policy for "new" HSes starting in the 1980s. The policy was based on a study that indicated that 2000 was the right size to allow for a full program of studies. Sometime after the SLHS boundary study, FCPS updated the new school size policy from 2000 to the current 2500. IDK the basis for that update.

N.B. Westfield and South County were constructed at 2500 despite the then current official policy being 2000...

The 2008 Boundary study dug up the old policy because the South Lakes PTA and Stuart Gibson could find no other reason to justify the study. It really had nothing to do with the number, it was just an excuse to get more affluent kids into South Lakes.

This is an interesting suggestion and definitely the least controversial move.

Do we know how much all that new construction is expected to yield as far as students? There are a lot of new developments all multifamily.

there is no way they move 3 schools out of westfield and don’t move any in. they need relief at centreville and chantilly. KAA was bought to relieve overcrowding in western fairfax. if there aren’t big changes to chantilly and centreville then what’s the point of KAA

Chantilly gets relief if they put Oak Hill at KAA.

Centreville is not that much over capacity with numbers projected to decline.

No one wants big changes. FCPS can fill
KAA adequately and still create as few disruptions as possible for the kids currently at the surrounding schools.

Its not 3 full schools out of Westfield bc the Floris and Coates attendance to Westfield is partial. And no one knows how fcps will
approach the KAA boundaries or if any of those areas will be moved. They might take one ES from each of the surrounding schools. They might go with whats closest.
They might care most about balancing the rich and poor kids. In the past there have been shady deals between the SB members
with rezoning.

No one knows what will actually happen.

If you insist- Oak Hill is almost certainly moving out of Chantilly. Thats likely enough, another school would be too many kids. They can then move Bull Run out of Centreville.

Willow Springs is less than 3 miles from Centreville High. Much of the neighborhood is closer.
It is more than 7 miles to Fairfax. With traffic, it is likely 3 times the ride in time.

It makes sense to move Bull Run to Westfield and Willow Spring to Centreville.
