2026 Private School Boys Lacrosse Commentary, Scores, and Updates

The Heights beat STA yesterday 8-7. I wouldn't say they beat up on them.

PVI vs Bullis is a toss-up, as is GP vs SJC.
Landon is a def favorite over GC
Gonzaga would be a def favorite over STA

EHS vs the Heights is a toss-up, as is SSSA vs DeMatha.

So we are back to imagining hypothetical matchups... I think I prefer the comparative score analysis approach. Almost as bad, but at least not imaginary.

Maybe we should analyze likely IAC and WCAC playoff seedings and outcomes. And keep advocating for a 1 game championship at the end of it. But imaginary games? Yawn.

Wow, that says something. So much for “DMV Game of the Week” last week with STA and Episcopal. Good for The Heights.

WCAC is deeper than the IAC.

No question this year WCAC is the better league.

Just look at both national rankings and you will see that the ISC. And WCAC are about equal. Equally mediocre.

The upper half (SJC, PVI, GC, GZ) and the upper half of the IAC (Bullis, GP, Landon) are on par.

The middle tier of the WCAC (Ryken, DeMatha, Heights) are likely on par with the likes of STA, Episcopal, and Saint Stephen’s.

Personally I think both leagues are “down” this year or maybe they are now taking a back seat to the big boys in New England West.

O’Connell beat Ryken a week and a half ago.

Prep v Bullis hard to call. Both teams have impressive wins and curious losses. Whoever plays smart / disciplined game wins, IMO.

Should be an exciting game to watch tomorrow evening at GP.

In my eyes, Bullis will need to score more than 6 goals (what they did against Landon last week) if they are expecting to win.

Prep has the edge in depth as Bullis plays fewer than 15 kids.

If Bullis can prevent giving up transition opportunities, control the tempo, and make it a slower 6v6 setting, I think they can sneak out a victory. Prep is good in transition and off re-starts, especially if the ball is in Hahn's stick.

Cant wait, should be a great contest.

I think Prep finds a way to win, Hoyas 10, Bullis 8.

Agree. Should be a great game. I will say I thought the Landon depth would wear Bullis down, especially that top middie line, who presents a lot of problems. But it actually appeared Bullis got stronger, as a team, with groundballs, caused turnovers, and the ride. Having said that, Prep is really good, and I think Hilgy finds a way to stop that middie line from Bullis and get the win. 9-7 Prep.

Depth is highly overrated in high school games. 14-15 players is more than enough. Where depth is helpful is when there are injuries. But aside from injuries, doesn’t help much. This is one reason why SJC underperforms. They have a lot of commits, but you can’t play all 17-20 at once.

3 attack
5 middies (combination of OM, SSDM, and 2-way)
5 Poles
1 Goalie
1 FO

Is really all you need. a second FO and 6th middie is helpful. After that, everyone is unneeded unless there are injuries.

Depth isn't overrated. Landon's 2024 and 2025 seasons are strong evidence of that. They ran teams off the field with a 10-man ride, playing lots of guys, and making it a full field game. Since lacrosse season also generally gets hotter as the season progresses, depth is useful in combatting fatigue.

On the flipside, you can overcome a lack of depth. Bellistri/Bullis is a great example of this; they excel at controlling tempo in games and have for years.

If we look at Landon-Bullis from last week, it's a case study. Landon 2026 isn't as deep as the last two seasons, Bullis starters are top-to-bottom stronger, and Bullis controlled the pace of the game.

If SJC has internal issues, that's a team problem. It's ridiculous to assert having less talented players would benefit a team. It requires managing players and egos, but anyone would want more talent.

I just reviewed Bullis' record. On average, Bullis gives up fewer than 6 points per game and that includes the scores in blowout games when coach emptied the bench (ie-SSSA, Ryken, Dematha) . The lil Hoyas will not score 10. I doubt they will score more than 4. Bullis' defense is very good. Hahn will score 1 or 2 but will ultimately be a non-factor.
