Depth is highly overrated in high school games. 14-15 players is more than enough. Where depth is helpful is when there are injuries. But aside from injuries, doesn’t help much. This is one reason why SJC underperforms. They have a lot of commits, but you can’t play all 17-20 at once.
Depth isn't overrated. Landon's 2024 and 2025 seasons are strong evidence of that. They ran teams off the field with a 10-man ride, playing lots of guys, and making it a full field game. Since lacrosse season also generally gets hotter as the season progresses, depth is useful in combatting fatigue. On the flipside, you can overcome a lack of depth. Bellistri/Bullis is a great example of this; they excel at controlling tempo in games and have for years. If we look at Landon-Bullis from last week, it's a case study. Landon 2026 isn't as deep as the last two seasons, Bullis starters are top-to-bottom stronger, and Bullis controlled the pace of the game. If SJC has internal issues, that's a team problem. It's ridiculous to assert having less talented players would benefit a team. It requires managing players and egos, but anyone would want more talent.
