Don't worry, us generous taxpayers will foot the bill.

Yeah, I’ve wondered how that’s going to work out. As people lose jobs there will be fewer taxpayers. I guess Trump will just keep adding debt?

I urge you to be kind to people in this boat if you know them in real life, because we need them in the tent.

I find it fascinating to know that a man who's seen Wag the Dog and remembers it enough to bring it up here would have voted for Trump in the first place.

“Successful” autocrats go into office and know to take some quick wins and make some things marginally better, for example cleaning out crime. Trump sort of thinks he has done this with immigration but for most Americans illegal immigrants were not really intruding into their lives in any appreciable way.

I’m sure he counted bullying trans kids early on as a “win.”

Problem is, there’s still so few of them, no one’s life is actually “improved” unless you count “improvement” as meddling in the healthcare of people you never met, or never having to hypothetically compete against a highly skilled trans female athlete. For all that hassle, your premiums still went up 300%, your daughter is still losing meets and will never get a scholarship, and some “dude’s dude” can still go in the locker room after the game and rape her.

+1 for most of us, illegal immigrants have actually provided a service -- they do backbreaking work on farms and in the slaughter houses. They are not taking jobs Americans want to do.

That's not to say that I approve of illegal immigration, or that I want illegal immigrants for their cheap labor. But, I do see them as human beings who clearly believe a hard life here is much better than a hard life from where they came from. They do not deserve to be treated in this horrific manner.

This has been the backbone of our country, where immigrants, legal and otherwise, have come here from their sh(thole country, much like Trump's mother and grandfather did, to seek a better life for themselves and their children.

I hear you, OP. Willing to be pragmatic in the short term. But long term? If these people fell for it once (or worse - chose it), they will do it again. We need to deal with that somehow, we can’t keep limping from election to election wondering if this is the year the Republic falls.

I think we need a truth commission like they had in Guatemala. Certain delusional people need to be forced to acknowledge the truth before we move forward as a democracy.

DH was saying that the latest from MTG regarding swapping out J6ers with the protestors in MN should make MAGA think really hard about what's happening. I told him that was wishful thinking, that most MAGA are entrenched in the belief that ICE was in the right, even as the six violent encounters that ICE said was not their fault, turned out to be their fault.

"I could shoot someone on 5th ave and not lose support.." - DJT

Or stated another way, "My ICE agents could shoot someone on the streets of Minneapolis, and I wouldn't lose support".
