My friend's MAGA Republican politician brother is up for re-election this November. He campaigned hard on anti-trans policies. His brother has since announced he is transgender and presents/lives as a woman. Apparently, he is in a panic over how this might impact his political career.

Sadly, this is probably correct. Nearly all of the focus group says that they were wrong about stuff that literally everybody with an IQ above room temperature was shouting from the rooftops.

But they decided to touch the stove again anyway.

I was talking to a couple of people I know. One is "independent", but I'm nearly 100% sure is a Trumper. She's bothsides-ing still, and said just today that things are bad with Trump and would be bad with Harris. The other is a self professed "Christian Conservative" who works for the government in a fairly high position. I have never seen someone so distressed by the state of things, how badly hurt his department and co-workers are. He actually apologized for his vote (he said he thought it would be like Trump 1.0), and pushed back against the "independent" by saying there is no way in hell anyone else would have been worse.
