I can’t believe the stupidity of small businesses and non fed people, they didn’t bother to think that if their clients lose jobs then they lose business, but here we are. I have a couple of relatives in Baltimore who voted for Trump and their business sales are in the dump. I have zero sympathy.

Btw, I am not a Fed but I have 2 brain cells to figure out that pretty much everything in DC is tied to the Federal government.

We were going to do a $150k renovation and I told my MAGA contractor in December we had cold feet because of the tariffs. Sad!

DP.

Same. I was planning to do a 300k addition. Not happening until Trump leaves office. Things are too volatile now. I am thinking of investing the money in another country to spread the increased risk that this one crashes.

I know of a couple of maga builders, I warn people away when folks reach out to the neighborhood for advice.

You seem to be suggesting that people in America should vote for what's best for the people in the DC metro area? Why would someone in Illinois vote so that DC area workers are employed by the government?

People in America should vote for what's best for the people in America. Unfortunately, they didn't in great enough numbers so we're stuck with Trump for 47 more months (fortunately, one month down already).

I know, innocent people are being hurt but except for the white woman (with clothes with no holes and a nice looking house) they should know! A farmer who doesn’t know who he’s selling to? Sounds like a bad business person. He deserves this. Or the Venezuelan who thought she would be an exception but was fine with Africans and other Latinos to be deported? Idiot.

I’m not on ticktock where most people are posting. Please share. Yeh, I’m petty.

Keep in mind, the farmer sells his grain or soybeans at the elevator. It's not some USAID employee coming to his farm with a truck. They issue procurement invites and companies like Cargill, I imagine, bid on them. And to do so you have tons of paperwork to be enroll in such programs, I imagine it's similar to getting set up to be able to bid on federal contracts (I did Hubzone setup for my son last year, and it was a project getting all the documentation they required compiled specifically according to their requirements).

There's ripple effect. USAID sends millions of dollars worth of grain and other things all over the world to aid in building American soft power. That gets cut off, and the contracts get canceled. A USAID contract was probably with someone like Cargill but then Cargill in turn buys from a slew of local farmers. Cargill's contract gets canceled and in turn they cancel their contracts with local farmers and boom. So even though the farmers didn't directly contract with USAID they lost their contract.

Americans really need to start doing a lot more critical thinking and start learning to understand the big picture of how everything connects. This is why they think the government is bloated, wasteful and doesn't do anything - because they take a lot for granted and don't actually understand the big picture of everything the government actually is doing. Is there waste in government? Is there layers of bureaucracy? Sure, but there's actually more accountability and oversight in government than there is in the private sector, and the private sector certainly also has its layers of bloat and bureaucracy, waste and fraud, sometimes worse than government.

What a dumba$$, thinking that Feds only exist in DC.

Feds are of course in every state but are a much smaller percentage of employment outside of DC. The exception to that is areas near major military installations, where they make up a large percentage of employed population. Also DC relies heavily on federal contracting and law firms that deal in federal investigations, providing a secondary federal market that most states do not have. So it is much different in Illinois or Ohio than in DC if feds get laid off.

Same. We did a kitchen renovation past year and one of the builders recommended to me was MAGA. Went to his website. The banner photo was him posing with an AK-47 and flag. Instant nope. Our decision was validated a few days later when I was driving my son to jazz band. He tailgated me in his contractor truck, then angrily passed on a double yellow line and cut me off. It turned out he was also dropping his son at jazz band 🙄

Ever since, I’ve been warning people off him. Why would anyone hire an angry, heavily armed man to come into their house and work on their kitchen?

Cool story bro. Plenty of those same stories in the reverse over the past 8+ years. But what does that have to do with FAFO for MAGA supporters?

Right now it's too early to see what the impact of DOGE will be. There will be collateral damage to MAGA supporters, but for now the damage is being done to the established system (and there are few MAGA supporters complaining).

As an aside, I thought Democrats were in favor of dismantling the current institutions because they were systemically biased? If this is (still) true, why don't Democrats embrace DOGE and help remake those institutions more fair? Why fight so hard for the status quo? Democrats should be much more targeted in their attacks to rebuild credibility. Hyperbolic claims aren't helping their cause, especially when numerous examples exist of fraudulent and wasteful spending.

One of the FAFO guys livelihood made possible by Inflation Reduction Act, something Trump SPECIFICALLY said he would dismantle. These are the MFs I have zero empathy for. https://youtu.be/DwppXz0h6N4?si=5S9ez51GX8-15Xtf

Lib here. I’m all for improvement and reduction. This is not the way.

Musk and his minions have zero understanding of govt, how and way spending is allocated. Hell, it would be better Tombring in the vultures from McKinsey over this.

Musk is a drug addled, marketing guy who is willing to blow up 5 rockets to get one to stick. Right now, America is rocket #1.

No Dem I know has said they want to dismantle current institutions. I want to evolve them: yes.

And, WAKE UP: DOGE is not about govt efficiency. Go look up state capture. Read about Orban in Hungary. Read “Democracy in Chains.” Look at the oligarch system in Russia. THAT is what DOGE is really about.

Think about it: why would the Repubs present a budget with MORE tax cuts for billionnaires while cutting Medicaid benefits for poor CHILDREN? Because they are setting up a system in which only the very wealthy win.

I don't think I can add screenshots here, but I have a nice growing collection of handout requests from my MAGA relatives that I've been denying.

The first one came from my cousin when the federal funding was first frozen. She's on section 8 housing and her landlord told her he'd have to evict if he didn't get the funds. She was asking if I would cover her rent if the freeze really did happen. Nope. Trump or sky daddy will save you.

I tried to explain this to my friend who owns a business in an industry that often uses illegal workers, which he claims undercuts him. So he voted for Trump. And now his clients are cancelling jobs because they fear the economy is tanking or they have already lost their job. Not sure how he didn't foresee this but....

The federal government is by far Kansas City’s largest employer and a major economic engine, with agencies like the IRS, EPA, Social Security and more in town. Experts warn the region’s economy will feel the pain when jobs disappear.

Almost 30,000 federal employees in the Kansas City area are caught in the chaos that has defined President Donald Trump’s return to the White House.

Remind me which POTUS KS went for.
