When he was done puking and saw her gone, he was probably thinking damn guess we’re not gonna hook up NOT damn did she drown!?

This is not a 5 star resort at all. We’re unfortunate that we’ve been during ‘spring break’ and it was like a children’s playground! Encouraged to drink by the waiters providing them bottles of ‘champagne’, wine, preferential treatment at the bar. Which they throw all over, throw the empty cups and bottles all over. Not exactly what we had in mind when we booked.
The rooms do indeed have mould, we’ve not used the air con at all as you can see the mould on the filter. Rather not throw that into my body. The maids have been in everyday and have done a fab job can’t fault them or any of the cleaning staff around the resort. They really are fighting a losing battle though with the amount of disrespectful children. Water in room topped up and Towels changed daily.
Saw two male staff stop and pee in the hedges from my balcony. Disgusting!
Went into the pool bar once and felt disgusting coming out due to the amount of alcohol being thrown around in there. Spent the rest of the time at the beach to avoid the volume of spring breakers that completely took over with no regards given to anyone else there. Go to the far left there’s little bar and loos that are much quieter than the larger ones entering the beach.
Woke two mornings to no running water, was sorted by returning in the afternoon however did have cold showers on both evenings, 1 full day of no electricity, trying to get lunch and dinner was horrendous. An hour queuing at the chicken stand for a burger. Gave in the end and bought crisps instead. Dinner was not organised at all, staff did a fab job to keep food replenished for the whole hotel in a small space but the wait staff didn’t help by again encouraging young people to drink supplying bottles and ‘egging’ them on. They were disrespectful to all other guests in there trying to eat. Should not have to listen to a bunch of kids chanting, they should’ve been moved out so more people could sit at a table rather than a sun lounger to eat their meal.
The young people have zero respect, banging doors and shouting in corridors at 3-4am. Grow up! This is the hotels fault for allowing group bookings. You’re attracting the wrong clientele. It’s trashy and not attractive to people that like a good time but minus the ‘children’. Got up one morning to find broken glass in the corridor, bins and ashtrays kicked all over. Sealy bags around the resort.
Messaged Riu on the app ahead of our stay to request something for my husband for his 50th
birthday… not acknowledged. Can’t book for any of the restaurants it’s first come first served WTF? Not quite sure how that is fair to everyone? Went for steak one night at 7:30… closed despite the boards saying 6-9. Must have a quota. The buffets were ok a lot of the same but all edible, not much choice when you can’t get into a restaurant.
Two days running we woke to one of the main drains overflowing outside our balcony, It stank rancid, never saw 1 person come to look at it, obviously a recurring problem as it’s got its own indents in the grass where it flows on to the path.
We went knowing it had a mixture of party and relaxation so we could enjoy both but we didn’t partake in the party due to the number of young people that were disgraceful and disrespectful.
I paid £3500 for 10 nights, I’ve paid far less and had much better facilities, cleanliness and respect at lower starred resorts than this! I went with an open mind after reading the reviews, wish I’d have changed when I had the chance! We made the most of what we had, but our evenings were spent avoiding and moaning about the young people. Riu should look at this hotel that is bringing their name down! TUI. You should also take a look at this, charging what you do for trash… shame on you!
Oh and $70 per person compensation for the lack of electricity, running water, hot water and cold drinks in 30+ heat… shove it. We will return to the Dominican but not this hotel. EVER

You would think by age 50, they could loosen the purse strings a bit. Why would they book a place known for spring break and then… complain about noisy drunken college students

The next day he was told she had not returned.

He did not make any report.

I don’t think it’s so weird that he didn’t make a missing person report… He had just met her a few hours earlier. They kissed in the ocean, got carried out by a wave, made their way back to the shore and he began puking the water that was he had swallowed. When he was done puking, he looked around and said he thought she had Gone back to her room. Since they barely knew each other that does not seem odd to me at all. Why would he think she was missing?

His friend told him the next morning.

Still, no report.

Yes, obviously. He thought she went back to her room. I feel like half the people in this thread do not remember drunk college hookup culture. I can’t remember how many times I’d wake up at some house where I was after a party and just get home in the early morning hours. Of course if something HAD happened to me the other people would’ve been questioned but none of them ever woke up and thought “should I report her missing to the police??”

You know her supposed friends probabley called their parents back in the US and they were advised to get lawyers. The lawyers may have told them to get out of the DR and back on US soil. It's amazing we've heard nothing about them.

Now leaving a friend at the beach to go to bed is not a crime. Nor is going on an excursion. But maybe they were not best friends.

Is it possible someone at the bar, added something in their drinks (as a prank or with criminal intent) which lead to her getting drowned or abducted.

Has there been confirmation of his assertion that he was indeed passed out during the 4 or so hour window? Did someone see him sleeping?

This. The person obviously knows how to use tripadvisor but didn't bother reading up on the Riu before booking it. When we (middle-age couple) were looking for a quiet getaway we spent a bit more for a resort where most of the complaints were along the lines of "it's too boring here" and had a wonderful time. Also the power stayed on and nobody died.

There is zero evidence she was abducted. It is incredibly probable that she was too drunk to swim in rough water in the dark and drowned. She wouldn’t even have to be drugged for that to have happened.

Right? Why don’t they report what was going on that night? What did they see? What was their last remembrance of her? How was Josh treating her? What were their parting words to her? Did they beg her to quit and join them to go inside and rest? Did they remind her about the excursion and that she had enough drinking for one night? Had they continued drinking out on beach? They know some details leading up to leaving her… when they left, was she in the water? Were there warning signs up for rough waters? How was Josh acting when they left? Did they see others when they left?

Where did you read that? His friend told him what? That she was missing? According to who? Her friends, because then if her friends had declared her missing to the guy’s friend then WTF didn’t the friends report her missing?

Why is everyone focusing on the drunk guy who knew her for maybe 30 minutes? What about her multiple friends who shrugged their shoulders, went back to the room and then the next morning left without her on a day trip on a boat? Somehow everyone is just giving the 3-4 other girlfriends a pass for not reporting her until 4pm.

So many low info posters who have not even read the thread.

Her friends contacted his and he told him they were looking for her. He should have reported his hero lifeguard swim then because not doing so when many witnesses and cameras saw him with her looks really bad. Esp in light of their near miss with death and swimming her to shore. It’s almost always the last guy seen with a gone girl. His own choices have cast further suspicion on him, as have his changing stories.

Her friends not reporting sooner also caused the search to miss key hours.

Anyone’s stories that did not involve death are minimally relevant and a bit MCS.

Yes, of course.
