Was he so drunk that he wouldn't have been able to have concern for her? Don't know. Or are you talking about after her friends may have told him she was missing, did he not show concern then?

The next day he was told she had not returned.

He did not make any report.

I don’t think it’s so weird that he didn’t make a missing person report… He had just met her a few hours earlier. They kissed in the ocean, got carried out by a wave, made their way back to the shore and he began puking the water that was he had swallowed. When he was done puking, he looked around and said he thought she had Gone back to her room. Since they barely knew each other that does not seem odd to me at all. Why would he think she was missing?

His friend told him the next morning.

Still, no report.

No. HER friends got in contact with his friend AFTER the excursion when they realized she still wasn’t back- so late afternoon.

He didn’t know this girl! He would have no ice her habits, where she could be, and if anything he’d assume her actual friends would be the ones concerned and contacting people if there was a need.

So many low info posters who have not even read the thread.

Her friends contacted his and he told him they were looking for her. He should have reported his hero lifeguard swim then because not doing so when many witnesses and cameras saw him with her looks really bad. Esp in light of their near miss with death and swimming her to shore. It’s almost always the last guy seen with a gone girl. His own choices have cast further suspicion on him, as have his changing stories.

Her friends not reporting sooner also caused the search to miss key hours.

Anyone’s stories that did not involve death are minimally relevant and a bit MCS.

At that time he did not know that he was the last person to see her. He only knew her for a few hours and thought she stumbled off. He himself woke up on the beach and wasn’t told about her being missing until late afternoon. With all that time passed since her saw her, why would be automatically assume she drown? You need to think of it from that perspective.

So let me get this straight.

Girls are catty and spiteful. How many of us got stabbed in the back by a frenemy in our teens/twenties? I know I did.

How do we know the friends aren't the ones who spiked the drinks and deliberately led those two into trouble at the beach? Oh, go into the water, I dare you, I know you want to. They left the beach and the next day they went on their excursion because they were smart enough to realize they needed a cover. This girl had a lot going for her. She was smart, she was pretty, she was going places. The type of girl frenemies try to smack down.

Then they quietly disappeared. They got the hell out of Dodge before anyone thought to turn their attention on them.

The boy was decent enough to hang around and try to help. That fits with the description others are giving of him as a kind and good human. Maybe he should have quickly gotten out of Dodge before he became a media target. He didn't, because he he is a kind and good human.

Speculation, of course. But not out of the realm of probability.

There were 4 women and 2 men. All 6 walked towards the beach after meeting at the bar post vomit. They all knew each other for minutes (not hours; not days).

Two of the women paired off with two of the men. The other two women went back to the room. The girlfriend went back to the room about an hour later according to video footage. Not sure about the guy friend who had been paired off with that woman. The missing woman was not seen going back to her room. Josh was seen leaving the beach around 9am.

So this tidbit about one of the women going off with Josh’s friends keeps getting ignored and the fact that those two might also be the last ones to see the missing woman. Also all of the other 5 people got out of DR. Josh is alone.

Josh is a US citizen. I would expect some help from the state department here. We have zero indication he is guilty of a crime and IMO he’s getting pegged by the police because they’re desperate to find someone to point the finger at when all things suggest it’s an accident influenced by alcohol.

Expect no help from agencies we are gutting.

Where did you read that? His friend told him what? That she was missing? According to who? Her friends, because then if her friends had declared her missing to the guy’s friend then WTF didn’t the friends report her missing?

Why is everyone focusing on the drunk guy who knew her for maybe 30 minutes? What about her multiple friends who shrugged their shoulders, went back to the room and then the next morning left without her on a day trip on a boat? Somehow everyone is just giving the 3-4 other girlfriends a pass for not reporting her until 4pm.

Holy strawman Batman.

Of course her friends should have reported.

So should he have done so. Not doing so only heightened scrutiny of him as the last to be seen with her. He didn’t know her from the lobby, he knew her from an isolated area right before he disappeared.

His passport has been held.

Their friends were seen on video returning. That has been covered in media reports and discussed upthread.

He is the last known person to have seen her.

The desperation re recasting him is striking on this board. Not sure if it is dragon boy moms or what. As a general rule, the last man known to be with a missing woman comes under heightened scrutiny in all countries. He has lawyers.

Friends she was traveling with didn't report her missing until the following afternoon. They even went on a day trip without trying to determine her whereabouts. When it was obvious she was missing, they disappeared. Some friends.

Of course he has lawyers, they confiscated his passport ! The odds of him killing her or trafficking her -when he is not even from that country - are not as high as the odds she was drunk and drowned.

Why does everyone feel its necessary to rehash the news? We can read and already know all the details from the news. Nothing you all are barking about is news.

It’s called a discussion. Should we be discussing things not in the news? How would we do that exactly? Participation is voluntary - you don’t have to do it.

This is not a news site, it’s a discussion forum.

And we are trying to discuss this tragedy from as many angles as possible.

+1. This bothers me the most. The 5 friends, having slept off the drinking, went on a day trip even though she hadn't returned. FiVE! You would think one or two might have stayed behind to look for her because of worrying about where she was.

It appears he was the last person to see her. As the last person known to see her (by HIS account) he is the official person of interest (POI).

But he was drunk as a skunk, as was she, so his account could be mistaken. Maybe they weren't alone on the beach. At some point there had to be people walking on the beach before 9am, as there usually are. Perhaps there were other folks walking on the beach at sunrise, as there often are. Where are those witnesses?

I've seen a comment or two about other people on the beach during the time frame when she might have drowned. Has there been an attempt to track down those witnesses in case they saw something? Surveillance cameras should have caught them walking off the beach.
I would think people strolling the beach at dawn are not drunk nor hungover and a decent source of reliable information.
