Political Discussion
Uh, perhaps in your distorted mind, but not in reality.

“The incident didn’t start with white boys harassing Native Americans; it started with them being harassed with racist and homophobic epithets by a group called the Black Hebrew Israelites. Sandmann later said in a statement that the students chanted school cheers as an attempt to drown out the abuse. In the longer video, it sounds like an impromptu pep rally, not a Trump event.
Phillips walked straight into their circle, past a clear pathway up the steps, and banged his drum near their faces. In context, the boys seem more confused than threatening — there are shouts of “Does anyone know what’s going on?” as they continue cheering and jumping. Sandmann repeatedly bites his lip and looks down, as people do when they’re uncomfortable and unsure of what to do. After the longer video emerged, Phillips told a very different story to the Detroit Free Press; he had, he said, sought to defuse the confrontation between the teens and the Black Hebrew Israelites. He didn’t explain why he thought banging a drum in someone’s face would have a calming effect.” https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/adults-are-doing-the-covington-kids-a-terrible-disservice/2019/01/22/9495ea60-1e95-11e9-9145-3f74070bbdb9_story.html?utm_term=.826b40fac7ff |
Blah blah blah. The fact still remains: the kids were a-holes. The chaperones did nothing. |
I care. I would never interrupt a sacred drumming circle yet, this specific group tried to interrupt a mass while beating his drum? What in the world. Catholic World Youth Day and is being celebrated today in Panama. BTW |

All sides were wrong. The BHI were wrong for what they were saying. Nathan Phillips was wrong for purposely banging his drum that close to a kid. The kids were wrong for being entitled, spoiled brats. Every single one of those situations could have been prevented if someone stepped in or acted liked an adult. The thing is, if we want freedom of speech, it has to work both ways. If we want to truly be a free society according to the constitution, then we must accept all sides even if we don’t agree with. Religion needs to be out of the government and the government should not have a say over what an individual chooses to do with their body. If that was the case, this whole fiasco would never had happened.
This whole situation has shown me how childish people are, and I’m not talking about the people involved. Name calling and mud slinging makes you no better than the people you are ranting on about. A person loses credibility when they resort to name calling. I say this as someone who seriously dislikes our president and clenches my jaw when MAGA followers spew their venom. But I also very uncomfortable when people who call themselves liberal (and I am liberal) think that it’s their way or the highway. If you truly believe in having freedom of speech opposing views have their rights too. Instead of name calling, SHOW them why love is the better way. |

Comedian Kathy Griffin deleted a tweet on Tuesday showing a photograph of Covington Catholic High School basketball players who were 'throwing up the new Nazi sign'.
Jack Morrissey, the film producer whose credits include Beauty and the Beast and movies from the Twilight franchise, deleted a tweet about 'MAGA kids going screaming, hats first, into the woodchipper'. The tweet included a gruesome cartoon showing what looks like blood spraying out of a woodchipper. Morrissey later tweeted an apology, writing: 'Yesterday I tweeted an image based on Fargo that was meant to be satirical - as always - but I see now that it was in bad taste. 'I offended many people - my sincerest apologies. 'I would never sincerely suggest violence against others, especially kids. 'Lesson learned.' Stand-up comedian Patton Oswalt also deleted a tweet promoting a thread about the Covington teens. Griffin, Morrisey, Perlman, Oswalt, and others reacted to the initial viral video, which appeared to show Covington students harassing the Native American man. But since that video, more footage has been released which suggests it was not all one-sided and that there had been several different protest groups that day. It also revealed that the Native American man had approached the teens. Now some of those appear to regret their hasty tweets attacking the high schoolers. |
A friend of his has. This picture is from 2011. People who keep posting it leaving that little fact out because they are looking for ANYTHING to slam these boys. So, the kids at the center of this controversy were still in elementary school when this pic was taken. And, it is not blackface as people keep saying it is. They know better, but they will keep doing it. Here is the twitter feed from a student at the school at the time. What he says is interesting is that the kid in red used this picture as his profile pic on twitter for a while because he thought it was such a "badass" picture. So, you can see he is not bothered by it. In fact, he LIKES the picture. https://twitter.com/fatkin42/status/1087435815909814272 |

Joy Behar explained this incident best on The View yesterday.
When Whoopie Goldberg asked why everyone was so quick to trash the boys instead of waiting for the full video, Behar replied... “Because we’re desperate to get Trump out of office." That's what this is all about. At least she is honest. |
Watch the entire video that is all I am asking but you won’t because you will never change your mind. I too thought the boys were complete jerks when I saw the original post and then yesterday, saw the real story. If this kid was your child you would feel differently but oh that’s right you are small minded will see only one side. And nope not married to a Brett. In fact, grew up in a blue collar household and worked my ass off every step of the way. Again you placed me and everyone else who thinks differently than you, in the ”privledged” catagory. Sad. Very sad |
| The guy who replaced Don McGahn as White House Counsel graduated from Covington Catholic. Weird! |
There are more recent 'blackface' images than that one that have been posted in this thread. And not just "blacout" blackface, but with the white mouth area like the minstral era. |
Not surprised that the social media warriors will try to find anything to demonize these students. Dragging out 8 year old photos to slam them - and the photos don't even show what they claim they do. Same with the "white nationalist" photo that has been floating around. LOL. A bunch of idiots making themselves look clueless. I am shocked that so many adults are crucifying a bunch of kids to promote their agenda. It is truly sad. I am glad these social media posts are being reported to the attorneys representing these kids. Lawsuits are planned. |
| Why was the Indigionous People's march held the same exact day, in such close proximity, as the March for life? Why not hold it one of the other 363 days of the year? |
Yep and there are other videos from that same day of them harassing women in different places. |
You must be new to the District. There are multiple protests/marches/rallies EVERY weekend day. |
