Using UBER is a life skill |
PP--yes, we bundle with Geico too (home, auto, liability) have our own 10-15% discounts through memberships and an impeccable driver history (no claims, no tickets). It keeps our insurance fairly low, but didn't seem to have an impact on teen driver cost--the good student is like a 10% discount? We didn't add a car, but we already had 3 for 2 drivers (ridiculous, but we were gifted a used car from my folks for when DC got his license). He's been on our insurance a few years now and the rates haven't gone down at all for him despite no tickets/accidents. |
The family our kids were 13-17. |
Parents record is pretty spotless so insurance rather low considering. |
People really do say the dumbest things. |
DP: I think it's a contemporary life skill--one that is cheaper than owning, insuring and parking a car if you live in an urban area (like this forum title...) Not just using the app, but having sense about how to feel safe about drivers-what you should look for, how to predict times, how to choose timing for a good cost etc. Older people--who are thinking of uber and the like when they can no longer drive--often have a very hard time understanding how to use it. I have an aunt who will ask me to set it up for her when she needs it for medical appts. and the like. |
Who’s paying the bill? |
Using public transit is a life skill. Riding a bicycle is a life skill. |
| I don’t understand the parents who let their minor children (that means under 18) take Uber or Lyft. It’s a violation of the terms of service and the driver is supposed to refuse the ride and report the child. They must be accompanied by a parent or guardian 18 or older. |

Many cars that are manual now here have to be special order. Jeeps generally are automatic except by special order. |
