Anonymous wrote:I think Morgan is probably motivated in part by racism. He sees Meghan as lesser and that's why he was so shocked at her rejection.

I don't think it's possible to prove this, though. If I were a juror listening to my own reasons for my relatively intense dislike of Piers, I wouldn't vote in my favor because the burden of proof hasn't been met.

So while it seems obvious to me that race is an issue in this, I get why others don't think it is so obvious.

That's the problem with issues of race often. I can know very well that it's at the root of someone's problem with me because of the little issues of tone, word choice, discrepancies between how they treat me vs. white people. But then if I say so and so is a racist, I have to have "proof" of their racism in the form of them using a slur. It's ridiculous.

A major factor in his problems with Meghan are rooted in issues of race. I know it. You know it. Sharon knows it. Someone can be racist and not have used a slur.

Yes. Anytime you want to accuse someone of racism, you should have proof of their racism. In general, you shouldn’t accuse people of anything unless you have evidence.

What would constitute "proof"? Who gets to decide?

Because right now it seems like white people get to decide, and only the most obvious and egregious examples count, while the real every day experiences of racism get dismissed as not being "actual racism" and we're told not to "cheapen" the accusation of racism.

Every person gets to decide for themselves. We all have free will. But accusations alone are never sufficient. If you throw around accusations of racism but don’t or can’t back them up, it becomes a “boy who cried wolf” situation. You’re not actually helping black people by making accusations of racism that you can’t support.

Well it seems like, in this situation their employers get to decide for themselves, and the burden of proof was met for them. So, conversation over? Or do we also need your approval, despite your inability to specify what counts as the proof you continue to demand.

What would be sufficient proof? Can someone please explain? If you're going to require proof, can you at least tell us what would be proof enough for you?

It's gaslighting and goalposts moving. There is never enough proof.

We all watched a video of a man sitting on another man's neck while he slowly suffocated him to death for no apparent reason. But he didn't call him the N-word, so no racism, I guess.

Piers has been on air for YEARS. And no one can find one racist comment?

Someone provided your proof, pages back. Keep up.

About racist remarks towards Meghan Markle? Nope. Not a one.
DP

I’m the poster. There is a pattern of racist comments. There is the established terrible and irrational vendetta he seems to have about Meghan Markle. There is him walking off set while his black coworker calls him on it.

You’d only think it racist if he was dressed up as David Duke and burned a cross in her yard.

Honestly I think it’s plausible that he’s JUST a raging misogynist but don’t really care which label is applied that finally sinks him and shames his supporters, he’s hateful to all so he deserves them all.

DP. If you had to say which was the most racist comment from Piers about Meghan, what would it be? Would you mind just directing us to the most egregiously racist comment Piers made about Meghan?

Oh yeah it was when he dressed up like david Duke and burned a cross in her yard didn’t you see where I said that? It’s only racist if you’re in the klan right? A pattern of racist comments followed by an unhealthy vendetta against a black woman is just a coincidence!

Or maybe just provide a single comment where Piers revealed that he was discriminating against Meghan due to racism?

I literally just said I think he’s more likely a raging misogynist than a racist. So maybe read if you’re so focused on specifics.

Then we are in agreement. (You’re in the minority around here.)

Can you provide me one thing he said about MM that was misogynistic?

That is what she was screaming. All her statements show utter ignorance about where, when, and how she could have learned racist behaviors. They are around us every single hour. They are so much around us, that some Black people learn racist stereotypes and accept them as truths!
Like so many Brits she has no idea what 21st-century racism is. She would not even let people explain to her.
So, yes, she was acting like a racist. Just because she doesn't know what it means, and how it looks like, doesn't make her innocent.

Let’s see your skin tone. Just share it with us please. I bet it’s pretty white.

Yes, I am white. I also made it my work to study nationalism, discrimination, CRT, Othering education in schools and media, conflict studies, and conflict resolution. I am also an immigrant from Europe and know that most Europeans are racist, unaware POSs. Including many in my own family. I witnessed Norwegians cross the street to avoid a black person coming their way!
If I can study it and learned it and not be an ignorant arse, what's your excuse?
I was interested in what the world sees when they say Black, violent, Middle East, Russia, Iran, West Europe, the U.S., democracy, capitalism, Imperialism, Orientalism, Balkans, etc.
I was curious why my white bread American FIL thinks he is not racist and is telling the truth, which is not racist, when he says, "You don't get it. Black people are lazy, ignorant, and stupid. It's the truth! How come I had nothing handed to me, but I am doing ok?" I was curious about how my own mom, who met no Black people until her 30s,(and that was a guest at a hotel!) claims that she is scared of them and finds them disgusting! And then utter that she is not racist, just realistic! Hey, I am honest, can you be? Both FIL and my mom claimed to be in favor of democracy and liberal government.
What's your excuse for not learning the reality of racism in the world?

I think the thing with Piers is Meghan sought out his friendship when she first went to the uk as an adult (and an actress) and then after meeting Harry she ghosted him.

I think a lot of his ire is personal.

You think she is the only woman that has turned Piers down?

Piers is a jerk and a creep and sexist - lots of examples over the years of that. I still don’t get why he s racist. He doesn’t like Megan so he is racist?

Sorry about your mother and father in law. Your mom is speaking from a place of fear of the unknown. Your FIL is making racist statements.

Yes, there are lazy Black people. There are also lazy white people. There are hardworking Black people and there are hardworking white people. Those are facts. The thing that disturbs me most about CRT is that people are the same. They have different experiences, but they are the same. Of course, experiences affect us and may change our behavior, but that does not change who you are.

The assumption about Morgan's comments on Markle is that he is misogynist and racist. The problem is--his comments were his opinion. I also share the opinion, though not the experience with Markle.

Markle should not be attacked because she is biracial--but, she also should not be exempt from criticism because of it.

I thought her interview was contrived and false. Enough truth in it to get many to believe her, but the undercurrents and little cuts throughout were troubling. Fake.

You think she is the only woman that has turned Piers down?

I believe he is happily married?
I think it's more than that - she approached him and he has a sense of huge self importance, to be dismissed in any social capacity is a big blow to his ego.
That's my theory anyway.

I have no idea. But, if she ghosted him, that says a lot about her character.

Why? They had drinks together, they weren’t even friends. Why does she need to stay in touch with him. Are we all obligated to be friends with everybody we have met?

DP. Exactly. She doesn’t need to stay in touch with him.

But the fact that they aren’t buddies anymore isn’t because of racism.

They aren’t friends anymore because she chose to not be his friend.

His rants about her is racism.

I am the poster who thinks he's misogynistic who you are happy with because I'm 'reasonable' I guess and we're in the minority in this thread.

You are very good at ignoring the parts of posts you don't want to read.

Piers Morgan has said racist things. I provided many tweets earlier. He walked off set of his show (unprecedented even in his career of tantrums!) when chastised by a black man. He also has a vendetta against a biracial woman that is far out of proportion to anything she has done. It is REASONABLE for people to then put two and two together to assume that his racist comments imply that he is racist and therefore his vendetta against the black woman has racist roots but because he is a not unintelligent guy, he has managed to not 'say the quiet part out loud' so to speak in his rants about her.

That is a reasonable logical leap. You have not made a single comment to refute this other than to petulantly ask for something he SPECIFICALLY SAID ABOUT MM.

And additionally, it is Piers Morgan's FAULT that he is facing these charges. He has been so uniformly hateful that people think is is racist, a transphobe, a misogynist, anti muslim, everything. Your defense to this is, 'since he hates everyone, he can't be racist'. And I say to you, because he hates everyone, he is ALL OF THOSE THINGS.

Again, people have ceded that he hasn't said that but concluded that the totality of his actions implies bias. You refuse to engage with this discussion in good faith.
