I have other friends who find the term 'black' to be a negative label and prefer African American be used.

Really, as a white person you can't win unless you know EXACTLY what the person prefers and if they will grant grace if you say something stupid but not racist.

Why are you calling them anything.

I never say white or American or <nationality> about anybody.

I get it, we aren’t supposed to see or recognize race, especially as a white person. Everyone is equal, however the same standards must be held by everyone for this to work. There are to be no double standards here. People can’t identify themselves as a color or race either.

^So, we are essentially canceling people’s histories by doing this. We are erasing their past.

For those who don't say black or African American, So you didn't use the phrase black lives matter or talk about justice with anyone who wasn't white??!!

That is some next level BS. Every black person must be put on a pedestal and not called out for their shit? Yeah, there are some shitty black people just like there are shitty white people. I would hope to call them out equally.

Thank you. This is it in a nutshell. The woke seem to want absolutely no criticism of POC - as if none of them are ever aholes. That’s simply not going to work.

Let’s just all hug it out and move on.

Do you interact with people from other races/nationalities often? I am married to a POC who is a naturalized citizen of the US and we refer to race on a regular basis. It isn't something to avoid, the whole 'colorblind' movement has been shown to not work in terms of equality and preventing racism. It's impossible to not see race or to pretend someone's race doesn't affect their lives.

Which history won't you cancel confederacy?

We handled that one completely wrong in this country. NO one should be holding up that flag!

I had the same experience when I referred to a woman of Jamaican descent as African-American. She was not angry, but did correct me on it.
