You don't think the British Royal Family had any drama before this? Like, none at all?

You must be too young to remember all of the drama with Charles and Diana and Andrew and Fergie. Both divorced. Charles was seeing Camilla and obviously Andrew had a lot of other things going on. Fergie was a wild child and didn't know how to conduct herself. Poor Diana was harassed so much she had a breakdown and was ultimately killed by the paparazzi. There is no drama with Meghan. The racists are creating the drama.

Wow.

The palace begging them to stay is not a good look.

All the Queen and Prince Charles has to do was issue a statement at the start of the year in support of his son and DIL.

Oh well.

They're not begging them to stay, they're making a factual statement. Clearly Harry and Meghan didn't think this through. I'm sure they haven't considered security, where they'll live, funding, engagements, etc. For two people who have long been supported financially by the Firm, this is a disgusting, self-serving, immature, irresponsible and disrespectful move. It looks like a public temper tantrum being thrown two grown adults who just want to get their way. Except that their entire plan for "self-sufficiency" still hinges on their relation to and history with the Crown. Nobody is interested in Harry or MM simply because they think they are nice or intelligent people. They trademarked Sussex Royal so they could make money from branding and merchandising while completely disregarding the fact that they only reason Sussex Royal even exists and has any notoriety is...because of the Crown that they just publicly blindsided and disrespected!

Long been? It’s been 2 1/2 years. I think you’re thinking of some other royals.

Honestly it’s good for Meghan to break off before she got too complacent and while she still has strong Hollywood elite connections. It’s bad for Harry...maybe.

There is an official rota of royal duties. Part of the obligation as a "working royal" is that you participate in these duties. Lots and lots of boring charities and opening hospitals and schools and visiting old people and serving on charities. 99% of the Queen's time was consumed with these duties. The Wessexes and Princess Anne are very active on the rota. The point of the rota is that there's a figurehead symbolizing the British state opening the hospital or school or opening a sports event.

What the Sussexes are doing is withdrawing from the royal rota. They're saying they're not going to do these everyday royal works. In other words, they're leaving the Firm.

If it's true they made this announcement without consulting Charles and the Queen then it's a major breach of precedence, not to mention irresponsible and disrespectful, even if it's the best outcome for everyone in the long run.

How are those things considered “work”? They seem to consist of showing up at a place where people adore them and are thrilled to see them. They have people who make all the arrangements, they just get in a car and are driven to an event. How is this considered work?

Was there constant press about how William and Harry hated each other and Kate was crying herself to sleep every night because she was being cheated on? No. And don’t say “there was always drama” because I’m not talking about Diana and Charles and literally no one cares about Fergie.

Andrew was literally asked to step down for being a pedophile rapist less than a month ago. Beatrice just homewrecked some “property developer” with no portfolio of properties and a kid. Zara was just banned for driving for six months. Elizabeth was just widely criticized for her interactions with Boris Johnson. Princess Anne just was part of a group of people caught mocking Donald Trump. Kate Middleton’s entire family was just vacationing at the property of an accused statutory rapist (Pippa’s FIL) over the holidays. I forget her name but the Queens cousin was pictured wearing a “black moor” pin (at an event with the Queen and the rest of the royals) less than five years ago.

What is your definition of drama?

Princess Michael of Kent wore the brooch. She is pretty despised by the British public anyway. Something about being a nazi sympathizer or similar.

Thanks!

Another example of the total lack of drama prior to Meghan: I think Michael of Kent is the brother of Alexandra who is both the Queen’s cousin and Phillip’s long time affair partner.

but a pic of her and Doria and MM were in the broadcast.... so....

Are people in America really going to pay big bucks for Sussex endorsements? Princess Anne’s kids make a comfortable living but they’re still in the UK.

That’s because they reused the photo from their engagement announcement. There’s nothing nefarious about her not wearing her wedding ring as she wasn’t married in the photo they used.

MM creates her own drama (or her family does).. Wimbledon, the ridiculous and tone deaf "poor me" speech at the end of the Africa tour, and now this... Heres the thing - if she just put her head down and did her duties there would e no drama outside the few internet trolls and 50% of the Daily Mail articles about her that are nasty... but it seems like putting her head down and working means she wont have the limelight, so...
cue in dramatic press releases, and sad eye interviews...

I didn't realize SUITS was such a prestigious acting gig.

His sister is.

Anyone who doesn’t think MM won’t have her choice of great roles in today’s Hollywood is disconnected from the realities of casting. If the Queen disowned them both tomorrow that would still be true. I have to assume a lot of Brits are posting here with a deep misunderstanding of the american media/movie making environment.

Good for them! Harry was born #2 to his brother. Now he is breaking out into his own role. MM had enough of the British racism.

This is what I meant by William gets what he deserves. Reporters already commenting on other senior royals needing to step up now.

Keep in mind this is a family firm and if senior members step back from official duties, others need to pick up the slack, or does the monarchy scale back?
