I believe half of the people on this thread are Republicans happily encouraging division within the Democratic Party. Meanwhile, Fonald trump is an actual anti-Semite. https://mobile.twitter.com/OhNoSheTwitnt/status/1103005713406803968 |
Nah. There's been a lot of tolerance for antisemitism among Democrats, and they've taken it too far. You can't blame Republican posters for the fact that Democrats are afraid of political fall-out by condemning anti-semitism, and now the country sees it. We didn't have an ALL Lives Matter movement because black people said it weakened the message geared specifically to address injustice toward blacks. Same thing here. Lumping in all "isms" just shows that Democrats are afraid to directly admonish anti-Semites. They are afraid of angering blacks, and black Muslims in particular. |
I will give this guy credit that unlike most of Omar's other critics, he actually was accurate about what she said. Her criticism was that Israel's supporters were pushing for an allegiance with another country. What I'm getting from articles like this is that the issue with her statement is that she said "allegiance". If she had said "support", I don't think most of those who are upset would complaint (but of course those acting in bad faith still would). But, to put into context what she said, consider this: This is a Christian group praising AirBnb being punished by the State of Texas because it refused to sign an anti-BDS pledge:
This is a Christian group that is obviously putting Israel's interests ahead of a US company. The same Texas law has been used to punish US citizens -- even firing them from their jobs -- due to their refusal to pledge away their 1st Amendment rights. When Omar says Israel's supporters are pushing for allegiance to a foreign country, she is referring to things like this. These are not Jews doing the pushing and criticizing them is obviously not anti-Semitic. Lastly, people keep saying that it is possible to criticize Israel and not be anti-Semitic. Just to be clear, Omar was not criticizing Israel. She is talking about domestic political lobbies. A lobby in which Jews are likely not even the majority. |

Omar's name is being maligned and I am glad that she as well as some of the new generation of Democrats who were recently elected are resisting the attempts to silence and discipline her.
Like it or not, Democrats like AOC and Omar are the future of the party. They have progressive ideas and they are authentic just like Sanders is but he is in his mid-seventies and his time has come and gone unfortunately. It is pathetic to see some of the declared candidates like Harris waiting to see which way the wind is blowing before taking a half-hearted position supporting Omar. |
Do you feel any of the BDS leaders have questionable backgrounds? |
I don't know who the leaders of BDS are and I don't care. Nobody should have to pledge to protect another country's interest in order to keep their job. |
If that organization is supported and funded by terrorists, we have an American interest as well |
There are already laws on the books to address terrorist organizations. Would you be willing to sign a pledge promising not to support white supremacists? |

If Islamophobia were given as much weight as antisemitism the situation may have been different.
Criticism of Israel is equated with antisemitism but there is so much criticism directed at Muslim countries and we don't hear a peep when that happens. |
Your posts keep getting deleted because they contain false information and are off-topic. |
My life is amazing as an ex-Muslim and so thankful that I am American. I can state what I believe without worrying about someone killing me for leaving a religion that follows a man who married at 9 year old. |
Really? And other posts don’t contain false information? That’s a matter of opinion. There a debate going on whether Omar even made or has ever made anti-Semitic comments. She has and others think she hasn’t. But whatever, I don’t know where you get your facts from, but it is true that Islamic countries deny Palestinians citizenship and Yasser Arafat died a wealthy man despite being born in poverty. Big accomplishment for someone whose only job his entire life was in the military. When discussing support for Israel, it should not be a one-sided discussion about how evil Israel is without discussing the deficiencies of the Palestinians. |
First of all, there are no Islamic countries on this planet, only Muslim-majority ones. Second, "Islamic" countries don't owe Palestinians citizenship any more than "Christian" countries owe citizenship to all co-religionists. Palestinians used to have homes out of which some of them have been expelled by Israel. That's a fact. Correcting this injustice shouldn't come with a difference of opinion. Third, the talk about "deficiencies of the Palestinians" has only one purpose - to make it seem like it's OK to oppress and dispossess them, as if only perfect people should be free from oppression. |
You really aren't going to win much affection by going around calling headscarves "vomit". Your life is amazing? But I thought Omar and "people like her" made your life sooo difficult? |
Dems are the ultimate anti semites, pushing Nita Lowey aside for NY senator in favor of Hillary Clinton. Now Lowey is objecting to this latest round of anti srmitism. |
