Maybe Will and Kate don't really care. They will still be wealthy and can lead more normal lives without the burden and expectations they currently have. So if they don't care, why should a bunch of Americans worry about it? |
Ha ha! Turn the question on the questioner. Maybe you can't answer the question? We don't CARE but, I was curious. From this response I know think I do know... |
You may well be correct but the level of personal wealth, while still sizeable by most estimates (mostly from Diana's and Queen Mother's bequests), it pales in comparison to the costs of the lifestyle that the lead. I doubt they want to give that up. |
FYI, the rapid kate defenders in here think there is only ONE person in the world who objects to their laziness.
|
What kind of person doesn't care about the state of the world, especially when they're in a unique position to help and do some good and have a lasting impact? Only a good for nothing kind of person would admit to that. |
You're not talking to the same person. More than one person posting in this thread. |
Agreed - you only have to look at the Royal hanger-ons and deposed family descendants to see that. The Russians sold all of their tiaras and jewelry within two generations (so that's basically George ringing up Sothebys) and the Greeks - ha the 'Crown Prince' lives in New York with five kids and affording private school for all of them is them doing well. He had to marry a wealthy American heiress to make sure to keep up with lifestyle but anything super-lavish is gone. The sisters of the current Spanish King are basically broke, one was indicted in a court trial for stealing $5 million from the Spanish public. She had to sell their home to pay fees and is currently living in Switzerland since Spain has the weird thing about non-members of the immediate royal family staying in their palaces. Basically William and Kate would walk away with about $20 million, Charles with $50 million etc. However none of the houses they currently live in except Balmoral and Sandringham are owned by the family itself so they've to buy property or go live in Kate's parents house. Then there's security - British public might be generous and give it to them for a term of a 2-4 years or they just might strip it entirely. Do you know how much private security for a family of five is - at least 7-figures a year. Housing and security would just be the basic needs. William is a lazy ass fool for letting the public even think of tossing him out. |
Yes, it's quite obvious the person is jealous they don't live the life of a royal. I clicked on this thread for fun but can't actually imagine in a million years spending time worrying or criticizing the actions of the royal family. You must be extremely bored. |

Sorry - embedded quote above:
And without the sovereign's general exemption from taxes, the death duties on Balmoral and Sandringham would be prohibitive. They will be sold to a Chinese billionaire or Middle Eastern Sultan in no time. |
Than what will all the Prince William and Duchess Catherine do with all the time they have? |
This. Thank you for outlining this. Wills and Kate are not only lazy but super foolish to not realize how their apathy towards their duties will jeapordize the BRF and the monarchy itself. The only reason William can afford to goof off with his silly helicopter gig is because of the goodwill his hardworking grandmother has with the public. Once she passes there will no longer be the umbrella of protection the Queen's hard work and reputation afforded them. Out on the street will Prince Charmless and lazy-katy go. |

This rebranding effort has allowed royalists to justify the cost to the public purse on the grounds of “value to the economy.” But the story of the royal family’s value to the British economy was simply dreamed up by smart PR professionals to save an institution in crisis. In reality, according to our research, British taxpayers lose about $468 million a year just to have a head of state—a lot more than the official figure released by Buckingham Palace, which was $58 million last year. In fact, our monarch is one of the most expensive nonpolitical heads of state in Europe, at least 12 times more expensive than Ireland’s elected equivalent. Even if it were true that the royals represent an investment by the British people, why should the royals spend taxpayers’ money with no checks and balances? That, after all, is why the monarchy costs so much—not because it’s expensive to run the office of head of state, but because the royals spend tens of millions of pounds on their palatial apartments, security and luxury vacations. Brits increasingly resent this—a recent poll we commissioned shows that 57% believe the royal family should pay not only for the wedding but also for police costs. |
This is a little light on facts and full of opinion from the CEO of Republic a group wanting to abolish the royal family. Why is a poll from 2012 relevant to an article about Harry and Meghan's wedding? |
| Meh, what Kate Hater and Work Chart Lady refuse to acknowledge is that the vast majority of people just want Kate to look nice, wear jewels and fabulous dresses, and produce adorable children. As long as she does that and appears more or less pleasant and normal, most people either do not care or will be happy with her. |
