Those are just patronage’s they lend their names to. They hardly show up even for meet and greets (and he doesn’t bother to read his briefings), let alone do any of the heavy lifting. They haven’t started any charity initiatives if their own because they don’t care enough to.
Agree with the pp, why are you so invested? Why do you care SO much?
Why do you care SO much that I care? I think they are lazy and over privileged for nothing.
Which is why there are so few monarchies left. A lot of people agree. However, the Royal family brings in a lot of revenue via merchandise sales, tourism pounds, etc etc which has been pointed out numerous times. So if they actually do earn their keep, then what? What do you think should happen here if they don't act more grateful? And if you aren't British you are spending a lot of time spinning your wheels on something that has no affect on your life.
A lot of British people say they respect the queen but only the queen. So once she passes if Charles and William don't step it up I could see them abolishing it.
Maybe Will and Kate don't really care. They will still be wealthy and can lead more normal lives without the burden and expectations they currently have. So if they don't care, why should a bunch of Americans worry about it?
You may well be correct but the level of personal wealth, while still sizeable by most estimates (mostly from Diana's and Queen Mother's bequests), it pales in comparison to the costs of the lifestyle that the lead. I doubt they want to give that up.
Agreed - you only have to look at the Royal hanger-ons and deposed family descendants to see that. The Russians sold all of their tiaras and jewelry within two generations (so that's basically George ringing up Sothebys) and the Greeks - ha the 'Crown Prince' lives in New York with five kids and affording private school for all of them is them doing well. He had to marry a wealthy American heiress to make sure to keep up with lifestyle but anything super-lavish is gone. The sisters of the current Spanish King are basically broke, one was indicted in a court trial for stealing $5 million from the Spanish public. She had to sell their home to pay fees and is currently living in Switzerland since Spain has the weird thing about non-members of the immediate royal family staying in their palaces. Basically William and Kate would walk away with about $20 million, Charles with $50 million etc. However none of the houses they currently live in except Balmoral and Sandringham are owned by the family itself so they've to buy property or go live in Kate's parents house. Then there's security - British public might be generous and give it to them for a term of a 2-4 years or they just might strip it entirely. Do you know how much private security for a family of five is - at least 7-figures a year. Housing and security would just be the basic needs. William is a lazy ass fool for letting the public even think of tossing him out.
