I feel so sorry for Jemel Roberson not getting to see his adorable baby son grow up.

This one is a self-confession: Use the ATM.

Yesterday I (white lady) was walking rapidly down the sidewalk when I saw a big, black guy dressed casually with dreads walking straight for me pulling something out of his pocket. I must have looked terrified as he looked straight at me and I tried to avoid him, but he kept walking towards me.

A second later, I realized he had hopped out of his car idling on the side of the road and was dashing to the ATM I was walking past.

In that split second with a different set of people, he totally could have been a victim.

(to clarify if it wasn't clear: the thing he was pulling out of his pocket was his wallet to use the ATM really quickly while his car was waiting.)

This is your problem; good for you for admitting your prejudice.

The cops got the call that there was a shooting suspect and that witnesses yelled to the officers that Mr. Roberson was a security guard. They would almost never keep firing if he were white.

+1.

The real problem is police overreaction, not racism.

Stats are very clear -- whites account for 50% of murders yet over 60% of those shot by the police.

I was calling about an injured deer in the road next to our house. My husband who is white, never uses racial terms, but he said that from now on, if he has to call the police, he will give them a rundown of the race of everyone in the house, and tape the phone call.

No chance that he might have chuckled because you called the police about an injured deer?

No, she was glad that I called. It was disrupting traffic. The police were there in 4 minutes. All she wanted to know was if the deer was still alive.

I’ve called the police to dispatch wounded deer as well......it’s the humane thing to do. Not sure why you needed to declare your race but well done in any event.

You do know what this thread about don't you Baby Genius?

...tell people about racism you have experienced and witness and have some motherf***** try tell you that some random stats prove you wrong.

I actually think it's everyone's problem. And, it's not really a life-threatening problem until people have guns to overreact with (or call the cops).

That's just unnecessary and rude.

They are kids. Why is it rude? I grew up in the 80s. Was wearing purple hair and long black coats rude to you?

I am a white woman with very curly hair that I straighten. I get the same comments. There is definitely a bias against natural hair in the workplace.

Hygiene?

Umm hair can be naturally curly and clean. Just like naturally straight hair can be oily and dirty

You’ve got it backwards.....your experiences are just random events, statistics tell the whole story.
