The new applied IM is for those who completed compacted 5/6 + met the vetting criteria. The other IM is for the rest of the 5/6 compacted math students. |
| According to parent portal...DC is registered for applied IM but not the global studies class. It says world studies. Do all middle schools in the catchment area offer both classes. AEI hasn't returned my call. |
| Are these classes just for incoming sixth graders or will there be equivalent accelerated classes in all of grades 6-8? |
| 18:23 - It could be that your child did not qualify for the global studies course or that there is an error. Have you spoken with Middle School counselling? They will tell you whether your kid was on the list from AEI. If not on that list, you will have to wait for AEI to return your call. |
Right now, pilot for 6th only. |
I think some schools are only offering 1 of the 2. |
| Are any schools offering more than one section of each class? |
Yes |
Pyle, Cabin John, and ??? |
Not all MS in cachement area will offer both classes. What isn't known is which schools will offer 1 or both classes. |

Likely Hoover, also. |
| Can anyone who went to last night's meeting (or who otherwise knows the answer) share what MCPS reps said about the criteria used to determine which kids will be offered spots in the home middle school enrichment classes? AEI said it would be just MAP, PARCC and CoGAT (if the kid took the CoGAT), but has anyone got them to clarify the weighting of those factors or what the cut offs would be? I've know of kids in the 98th and 99th percentile on MAP and PARCC who didn't get into the new classes and am trying to figure out whether that's because of some undisclosed factor or MCPS-mandated limits on the number of kids admitted to the new classes. |
| I wasn't at the meeting but grades are also part of it. |
