| Pyle is offering more than one section? Can someone confirm this? |
| How did people learn that some schools are offering more than one class each of the two new classes? Was that discussed at the meeting last night? I thought every school was getting at least one or the other, and some both, but I hadn’t heard that there could be more than one of each class at any given school. The more the better as long as there is need, but I am curious where the info is coming from. |
It is my understanding that more than 100 students at Pyle we’re accepted into one or both programs. If that is accurate then there has to be more than one class for each session otherwise the classroom size doesn’t work |

If true, that would be three classes per enriched course or a huge percentage of the incoming 6th grade. That must only leave a few classes of IM. |
|
It's like "honors" classes at some schools all over again. I thought about 40 percent of the students at Pyle took IM in 6th. If there are 100 in the new enriched IM then that's 25 percent of the total 6th grade leaving 15 percent in just IM.
Why not just put everyone on the compacted or accelerated track in the enriched classes? |
The incoming 6th grade Pyle class is the largest ever with more than 600 students. |
I should add that some kids only were accepted to one of the two sessions. I don’t know the breakdown. |
How much increase numbers wise is there overall at Pyle next year? Are the 7th and 8th grade classes bigger than typical too? |
No clue. The current 5th grade class has always been really large. DD’s 5th grade class has 125 kids compared with DS’s class of 85 or so several years later. Good time before the ‘07/08 recession hit. |
| Interesting, so Pyle might very briefly expand and then shrink again soon. |
So that is about 17% of the Pyle 6th Graders in at least 1 enriched/accelerated class. That's pretty good! |
| Here's the link to the recent BOE doc on these classes. It says that both Takoma and Eastern will be offering one of these classes (English at Takoma, math at Eastern), and someone confirmed that for me at the AEI meeting on Monday night. Anyone at those two schools heard anything about the classes -- either the student enrollment or how many sections of each course would be offered? |

Oops, the link is above |
| There has been conflicting info about CJMS, but a parent has confirmed with the school that the selection process is ongoing, with decisions expected to be finalized mid-May. |
