not new for test-in magnets

new for "the unwashed masses"

Those course descriptions sound like the actual implementation of those courses in the Middle School Magnets. (I've had one child in the MSCS program, and one in the Hum program.) The point of the magnets is to pull together a cohort of like-minded, fast paced students, and offer them the opportunity to engage with content in a different, more in-depth way. If the local middle schools create separate classes for those students, they should be able to engage with the enhanced magnet curriculum. Training the teachers is going to be the most important thing IMO.

Long overdue. My child suffered through sloooooooooooow middle school math— bored out of her mind.

Better than nothing! Sadly, my son in already in 7th grade at one of those schools and will miss it.

As a parent of a child who was informed that "your child has a cohort of peers at their school" after MCPS global testing ; I hope for the best but plan on nothing changing but the title of class. MCPS and sets of parents is so worried about hurting feelings instead of focusing on teaching the child.

So are they not going to do anything for the upcounty students? Does anyone know?

Presumably they will wait to see how the downcounty pilot program goes this year before expanding to upcounty. That's how the changes to the CES worked -- pilot area last year, all schools this year.

It's simply another tracking device for kids. I will bite as my kid is bored in Compacted Math and takes science courses to get enrichment. But, her middle school is not listed.

Once again, Northern Hinterlands gets screwed. Never anything for our kids.

No, these are standard class descriptions from Pyle as in Pyle for the past several years. That is not a test-in magnet nor is it new. Get it now?

Upcounty has the same magnet process as before, which many parents preferred.

Well, it is not in my kids middle school class descriptions. Are Pyle kids taking these classes now?
