Opted out. Not kicked out. The head of Girls VDA is also the newly elected chairman of US Club Soccer. I would assume that had some impact. |
“opted out” - ok
Wilmington, NC just announced as ECNL mid-atlantic 2018 club. |
Knowing the VDA was switching to ECNL changed it for me. IF Arlington can find the field space, they are a logical fit to replace the VDA. |
That is a good club. |
I’m not convinced DA needs to replace VDA. It might be best for all leagues if Arlington went ECNL. |
Looking at the DA application, I don't see how Arlington meets the criteria for a girls DA, from field space to quality of players to quality of coaches. And I would be very surprised if Arlington attracted the level of players to be competitive in the DA (not that VDA is that competitive). Bethesda players would still do Spirit MD if they want DA; maybe a few of the Arlington girls who moved to BRYC or McLean might move back but most probably left Arlington because they were dissatisfied in some way; too far away to attract more than a couple former VDA players, and only a Spirit VA bench warmer would switch. In short, an Arlington girls DA would be no better, and probably worse, than the current VDA program
Which doesn't mean Arlington might not get a DA, but it will because of spite (for ECNL) and desperation (from feeling the need to replace VDA). |
They probably don't have a choice anyway. Arlington is not ready for DA, can't get the fields, and is focused on the boys DA anyway. USSF won't be beat as top dog, so Girls DA can take the super elite, and who cares for most who don't have or want that commitment . Going ECNL would broaden ECNL's reach and keep girls at home clubs (like BRYC, VDA, Loudoun, etc.........). Would of course cement ECNL as the 2nd Tier for girls soccer, but ECNL fine with that as long as it gets players and clubs and $$ for its showcases. Right? But if you fast forward a few years, then does one question how many colleges will pay attention to a league that is totally watered down? Now, any half decent girl in Arlinton will be in ECNL, instead of only the best going to Braddock or Mclean. Same for Loudoun, where they used to go to FCV for ECNL. The ECNL will not be the same product as the past. There's the rub. Cost will be the same, but one hopes the new ECNL clubs are not selling the same past statistics. Parents will eventually realize that for your age group you need to travel to the best ECNL team/club in the area, perhaps to Loudoun, to get on the radar of anyone. Not sure what is getting accomplished here. Thoughts? Do we really need another ECNL club? |
Expanding ECNL is more of a CCL killer than a watering down GDA. Its the same kids as CCL or EDP anyways, just a more cohesive structure. |
DA v ECNL, nothing burger!...... Arl. does NOT need an "elite" option. Why change anything - one big bubble and families fulfill quests when DD makes red. Girls are happy,, no one worries too much about the next level or play quality. DA/ECNL don't fit with State cup and king of CCL team ..... seriously, only egos driving this debate of whether Arl. need DA or ECNL. PP is right, would only rebadge Red |
https://www.socceramerica.com/publications/article/76799/anson-dorrance-on-soccer-politics-marrying-the-ec.html Q: When U.S. Soccer sends out a press release announcing a youth national team roster, it mentions how many of the players play for DA clubs -- for example: "Sixteen of the [22] players come from U.S. Soccer Girls’ Development Academy clubs" -- but doesn't mention what leagues the other players play in ... ANSON DORRANCE: It's as if they're saying, “We’re the ones developing the players.” No, you’re not developing the players. You’re recruiting the players. Please don’t try and pretend because 70 percent of the players on a youth national team are from the DA, you’re developing them. You and I both know they ripped these kids off from ECNL teams. How do you do that? You do that by showing 70 percent of the kids on a youth national team came from a DA team, "so everybody has to be there." |
You, my friend (not really), are obnoxious. And, wrong (but you can't admit that). But keep believing your own babble. And eat that nothing burger you keep serving up. |
Thanks. Do you mean ECNL will not water down GDA, but ECNL will get watered down itself into something like CCL or EDP, but with a better structure? |
Why do you think ASA must have the ECNL or GDA? It looks like nothing would be an easy choice with so many pros & cons. |
I believe the later will happen. |
“Please don’t try and pretend because 70 percent of the players on a youth national team are from the DA, you’re developing them,” he told Soccer America. “You and I both know they ripped these kids off from ECNL teams.” ..... and ECNL was developing players or was it the clubs?? ECNL is just a platform. How are they developing players? nothing burger. |
