I'd ignore this post. Keep trying to get answers. You have nothing to lose. |
I agree- frankly, with these scores, I would email the AAP director (whoever is in charge) and submit copies and request an in person meeting, Chances you won't meet with that person but someone else will contact you. I would also put in stronger language such as a right to education/tax payer etc. But professional, |
| The scores are age adjusted to so a young child with 1 wrong could get 160, my December child with 2 incorrect got 140. The age adjusting makes a big difference. |
No one is denying her kid his right to attend public school. Please share the law that FCPS is violating by not accepting this kid into their Level 4 services. Here, let me give you a copy of the Virginia Code regarding gifted education: http://www.doe.virginia.gov/instruction/gifted_ed/gifted_regulations.pdf |
"Identification" means the multistaged process of finding students who are eligible for service options offered through the division's gifted education program. The identification process begins with a divisionwide screening component that is followed by a referral component, and that concludes with the determination of eligibility by the school division's identification and placement committee or committees. The identification process includes the review of valid and reliable student data based on criteria established and applied consistently by the school division. The process shall include the review of information or data from multiple sources to determine whether a student's aptitudes and learning needs are most appropriately served through the school division's gifted education program. B. Each school division shall adopt a review procedure for students whose cases are appealed. This procedure shall involve a committee, the majority of whose members did not serve on the initial identification and placement committee, and shall inform parents or legal guardians, in writing, of the appeal process. Requests filed by parents or legal guardians to appeal any action of the identification and placement committee shall be filed within 10 instructional days of receipt of notification of the action by the division. The process shall include an opportunity to meet with an administrator to discuss the decision. |
This, I have a late fall birthday kid and a late spring birthday child. They missed the exact same number of questions on the NNAT but the spring child score was higher. I asked the AART teacher about it thinking a mistake had been made, she was very nice and explained the age norming.
Also I was kind of suprised to read the links of the old forums that the schools keep basic stats of all these scores and the outside testers? I mean for the OP all the scores seem to be close, he had a high spatial and fluid high working memory. Lower (not low) verbal. Any WISC that was submitted that was super different than CoGAT or NNAT scores and a low GBRS without a 2E reason would be suspicious and likely rejected. I don't really think it is a big conspiracy. I am guessing OP's rejection is on of the few (if we have all the facts) that should be looked into, maybe a paper error. |
They haven't taken the time to call her back. I doubt they are going to try to figure out any potential error. Our tax dollars at work. |
|
No one called today either
Planning to email the coordinator whose name was on the decision email Even if their decision is going to be unchanged I want to know the reason as he cannot take a better score next year. |
| At this point you should just go to the office and talk to someone. You may not talk to the right people without an appointment but you might get a call faster |
| I'd copy the superintendent and the members of the school board. That's move things quicker. |
Hmm, a private school parent of a kid whose AAP application has been rejected twice...yeah I’m not thinking this is a super emergency even for board members or superintendents. I’m sure they’re all sending Kirsten flowers for all the crazies she will be dealing with between now and June. |
That will make you a crazy mom. Please don't do that. Talk to someone at the office first. |
| Floris ES has LLIV. OP's kid can probably be principal placed for 3rd grade. |
She's a taxpaying fairfax county resident. |
What do you mean that he cannot take a better score next year? |
