WHERE will you retire?

Weird post. Hope your reference to "NY people" isn't code for something.

Savannah

Savannah is beautiful, but too many mosquitos.

You will need to come home a couple of times a year to take care of health issues. My plan is 3 month Amsterdam, back home, 3 month London, back home, 3 month Venice, back home....

To hell with retirement, I'll move there tomorrow! No libtards is a definite attraction.

You can't afford it, loser.

Aside from high cost of everything, it is a very relaxing place and water is sweet ,,, best tea I've ever had was in Hawaii, I think it was the water because I brought my own tea bags.

Sounds like my dream! How are you going to arrange places to stay? AirBnBs?

All true, but really far away. In my fondest dreams, our kids and their families live close enough to visit often but not stay for weeks at a time (and vice versa), and we still get to see our siblings and extended families who are up and down the East Coast. Hawaii wouldn't allow for that.

NP -
It's not code for anything other than "people who have moved from New York to Florida".

Most people in Florida are transplants. On the Atlantic coast it's mostly from the northeast, primarily NY and NJ while on the Gulf coast there's a larger proportion of people originally from the Midwest. The end result is that people tend to be a bit more laid back and friendly on the Gulf side.

That's the thing--it's really far away, especially from the East Coast. I've been twice and the flights took all day, including stopovers in LA. Otherwise, it is indeed relaxing once you're there.

Love Hawaii.. born and raised.. love the food.. love the perks.. but..
(a) too expensive. Think D.C. housing / food prices with none of the 'cost-shortcuts';
(b) distance. Check your loved ones if they can afford to fly out;
(c) taxes. Don't forget, they tax retirement income. If you don't have a cool 2M banked, may not be that great an option for you;
(d) healthcare. City is top notch - but expensive. Country may or may not have the services you need nearby (ex. long-term care);
(e) Age difference. What you want when you're 0-50 may not be the same as 50-100.

Like the kids? Better to live close and take a nice vacation, to locations of your choice with the family.

No kids? Find someplace cheap, with adult daycare, and good medical nearby. Use your money to travel where you want to go.

In between? Live there short term than move - just watch costs if you're not independently wealthy.

It's code for rude, self-absorbed, entitled assholes who think they are smarter than everyone else by virtue of being from a big city. does that help? NP, by the way.

You bring yourself wherever you go. If you are comfortable in your own skin, you can live anywhere.
